Dont know if LG changed their tune in the past 4 years, but I have a 4 year old LG 37'' 1080p that required me to take it in myself to a certified retailer, which the closest was 30 miles away, 4 times in the first year of owning it. Talk about quality control problems. Not to mention each time u take it there your without your TV for a week.

BestBuy had this for $799 last week, but only for in-store pickup, and they didn't have any in stock near me. I wasn't quite ready to pull the trigger on this last week, but the idea is growing on me. I like that it's not a "Smart TV" - I have a Win7 HTPC driving my screen anyway, so paying an extra $200 for a TV with apps is a waste of money, but I'd like the 4th HDMI port, and the slightly better contrast ration that the LW5600 has, but not enough to pay the extra $200, plus the cost of a 3D BluRay player.

I think I might have to go and look at this in person this weekend.

For anyone interested this is a passive 3D set which means the glasses are the same type you get in theater. (Not the blue and red ones) while these work great and are cheaper then the active glasses set up they do not bring out the true 3D effect that you may want to see. Also it seems that more people complain of eye strain from the passive system.

That said it is still a great deal.

Hold on there! Passive 3D causes LESS eye strain than Active 3D, because there is no flicker, and no possibility of the glasses getting out of synch with the screen, and the image is brighter because both eyes are seeing the whole image at the same time. Passive 3D is more "natural" - both eyes see a slightly different image at the same time, which is exactly the way your eyes expect to work!

As for the effectiveness of the 3D? All of the 3D content that you're going to watch was made for Passive 3D, because that's what they use in Cinemas!

While enthusiasts will continue to argue for whatever technology they favor, the experts reckon passive 3D has the edge - http://www.displaymate.com/3D_TV_ShootOut_1.htm

The bottom line is - if you want to watch 3D TV with your family, Passive 3D glasses cost about $5 a piece, and this set comes with 4 pairs. If you want an Active 3D screen with 4 pairs of glasses, be prepared to shell out another $200 more than the cost of the glasses alone
