Ms. Alberta Pemberton, the unluckiest woman in the world, goes to the store to print a flyer.
In for one.. Just used the first one to load my entire music collection into the car.
aren't most flash drives water proof? i've washed mine dozens of times and it's still going
Will this one fit on a keychain?

Ok, seems like we're seeing a USB drive once a week, so go ahead, Woot, and creates a Woot USB site!!! There must be that much demand!
Wow, awesome deal! I would have purchased this if I didn't already just buy a 32gb (Sandisk $30 shipped). This is a much better deal!
4 stars and 59.99 over at amazon - http://www.amazon.com/Centon-DataStick-Waterproof-Flash-DSW64GB-001/dp/B002Q8HOBM
Looks like that should be 5 stars though, the one single star review is someone that didn't understand how to use it properly.
@dselig: While most flash drives will survive, they aren't necessarily waterproof, it's just that water doesn't damage most electronics unless they are powered and running it through a wash/dry cycle usually leaves it unharmed. You still risk damage if dirty water that contains salt/minerals dries inside or if you plug it in before it's fully dry.
I'm pretty sure the ones advertised as waterproof are covered with epoxy and rubberized to protect the circuit board from exposure.
"Too slow for my taste..."
The real question is will smart-post take longer to deliver this than it takes to fill up? Intrade is betting it's 50/50
@spectral: Most Electronics are 'washed' with water and soap after they come off the Wave Soldering machine, that make them.
I still have yet to figure out why these thumb drives that can survive falls, water and a nuke still don't have a cap that is attached to the thumb drive.
Honestly who can say they haven't lost at least one cap.
Great Price! I'm definitely in for one. I like the fact that you can throw this one right on your keychain/ring or on a Carabineer. Not only that, but I just bought a PNY Attache 32 Gb on sale from Staples for $39.99 (regular price was $79.99). That makes this an incredible bargain!
With 64 Gb of "spare room", you can also backup massive amounts of music, movies, photos, etc. These work just like a portable hard drive. It's always good to keep a copy of important things stored away. A bolt of lightning or powersurge are terrible things when it comes to your computer. Been there, done that ... lost everything.
i love swimming with my usb thumb drives, so this is just the kind of deal that i've been looking for.
I would like to say that one of my 16gb lexar drives survived a wash cycle and a dry on high cycle in the laundry and it still worked afterwards, all the files were accessible.
Ok i hate to be a party pooper but i've purchased 3 Centon drives and alll three have failed on me. Centon refused to replace them and kept saying that the drives were abused or that my drivers were out of date. the only diff between this and their standard drives is that the chip is internaly enclosed or "sealed". but that wont make this a deal maker. For me, Centon is a brand to avoid at any cost
Is it just me or does the description sound a lot like the movie 2012?
This'll go great with my waterproof laptop!
Anyone know of a waterproof mp3 player that this will adapt to so I can surf with tunes?
It's amazing how far memory storage has advanced. My first computer, a $1,000 IBM, had a 40 Megabyte hard drive and I thought that was more storage than I'd ever need. Now less than 20 years later this tiny USB stick holds 1,500 times more data. (Actually, 1,638.4 times more memory, but who's counting?)
FYI
It took about 90 mins to copy 57G of MP3 (Approx 10,000 Files). That was after I'd reformated it to FAT32. Car's audio system is having no problems with playback or navigation of the files

@halukucar: I have no idea why people believe the 3 MB/s speeds. Its obviously a typo. Last time Woot had this same exact USB drive for sale I took a chance and bought it. The actual write speeds I'm getting for large files are 20-30 MB/s. Smaller files are even faster.
Ended up getting one so I can transfer encodings easily between my desktop and macbook. That's literally the only reason. Only have to format it to exFat to share between the two (default of NTSF). Also if I ever want to build my hackintosh, should be able easily store all the programs necessary to make it happen (uncertain if I will be able to use exFat to do that or if I will need to use OSX's file system).
I got one of these last time around to replace my aging (and full) 16gb portable service drive. Works great. Speeds are good for a drive of this capacity (16MB/sec write, with faster read) and it appears to be reliable. The rubber boot that's on the body can be easily pulled off (held on by rubber cement) if you want to cut down the physical size. It's not waterPROOF, (don't wash it or swim with it) but it should be safe against splashes. I've been scammed once before by undercapacity flash drives so I tested this one when I got it, and it writes fully and error free to the end of the space. Recommended.
I'm skeptical of the waterproof claim. I plugged this into my laptop, and submerged the whole affair in the tub and none of the mp4's on the stick would play. Maybe the water was too hot?
@markddrake: your entire collection fits on one of these...weeeaaaakkkk :)
I wish this stupid jump drive would actually sell out!!!
There's always one guy who has to claim he's so "old school" that his first computer had less storage. If your first computer had permanent storage built in, you aren't "old school" yet.
What the hell can I do with all those 256K and 512K USB sticks that i paid $200+ for that still work. Anything interesting that can be built out of them?
@skrutinizr: Really? You have 256K USB flash drives? Methinks you mean 256MB drives. Almost certain nobody ever manufactured a USB flash drive that small. Heck, even a 3.5" floppy disk had more than a meg. Which leads me to doubt your old-school computer claim as well...
@skrutinizr: Me! Our very first computer, as I recall, used 8" floppy discs, then we got the TRS-80, which had only 5.25" floppies for storage. My very first computer with a hard drive had a 20 mb, and I couldn't imagine how I could possibly EVER use that much space for anything!
waterproof, but apparently not sit in a box proof...
had this exact usb drive/model/size go out on me after around 3 weeks use... got stuck in "disk cannot be written to" mode -- can't write to it, move files, delete, format, etc. none of the fixes searched for worked.
@jamfanmike would love to jump on the $65 deal but not sure on the site and how the hell can he sell a $600+ drive for $65 seems shady.. tempting but shady
@jamfanmike I tend not to trust any merchant with a Hotmail contact. But that's me.
@jamfanmike: CRAP! CRAP! DANGER! Site is an exploit site! NoScript put the kibosh on one of the domains associated with it: cnzz.com
@jamfanmike: Wow, a $700 flash drive for $65. Seems super shady. If it's via Paypal, aren't you covered if the item is not legit?
In for one. Actually just to put on keychain
so people can see how modern grandpa
is getting in order to store his girlie mags.
@jamfanmike: scam in it's purest form. stay away
For all all you aspiring super villains building your super secret bases deep underwater. Also foils Aquaman.
@jamfanmike: Pretty lame scam.
You're going to see a lot of USB2 devices for cheap in the near future. All the manufacturers will be rolling out their USB3 devices in the next several months.
Got two of these when it was on last time, great drive, solid transfer speeds, but most of all it comes with an actual 64.5 gigs so none of that 63.6 after formatting garbage.
Specs say 3mb/sec xfer speed which I believe. It works ok, but is really slow. Anybody know of a fast 16GB-64GB flash drive?
nice drive got one last month, at the same price
not the fastest match in the box but sturdy
will hold me till the usb 3 ones are out

I just got my flash drive from this order, and it is SLOW! Although faster than the specs listed by the manufacturer, I would venture to say it is not a typo on their part. I have been getting write speeds of about 3 1/2 MB/s. It starts out faster, but when writing large files it slows down as it goes. It took nearly 10 minutes to transfer a 1.7GB folder.
Never mind, after more testing the drive is performing better. I was getting slow speeds during that one transfer, for what reason I have no idea, but after trying other transfers I get some better results. I got about 15MB/s on a single large file, and an average of 8MB/s on the same 1.7GB folder I tested earlier. It appears that the drive is slower on many small files than it is on a single large file, opposed to what someone said earlier.
R.e: Centon DataStick Sport 64GB Waterproof USB Drive
Says it works on Mac but can't write to the drive or change permissions to allow. Any help is appreciated before I have to return these. If you know how to get it to work w/ a Mac, please zap me an email. Thanks!
@millercb: That is typical as separate files have to be written closed. Also Windows doesn't handle the operation properly. Just got this in B A G of C R A P and it is averaging 22.6 mb/s after a PROPER format. None of that quick stuff.
