Just ordered one. Yes you are all correct. More compact gets hotter but not enough to hurt it. Cheaper equals slower. You get what you pay for. They still are not any slower than a standard mechanical hard drive. The volume more than takes care of the slowness. If you need speed for readyboost or running apps from the drive you may want to pay more and get a faster one.

I've got an old XP laptop I can't seem to part with. This will prop it up for a little bit longer with some more storage!

Most reviews for these smaller drives seem to say they get excessively hot, though the one I've owned seemed to do alright.

They make for great portable linux boot disks that you can leave in on a laptop.

Great little drive! Sounds like it's a bit slow but pretty cool for what it is! Too bad they don't have a USB 3 version of this. I can't find ANYTHING like that...
