when I was in the Army in an Aviation Battalion, the pilots used these to read maps while flying.

we paid a lot more than $1.50 for them, some were red light, some white

More specifically, you cannot have the order fulfilled from Amazon at all unless you're spending at least $25 (although you can buy $25 worth of lights). OTOH, you can select an alternate vendor - still ordered through Amazon - and have them shipped for free from the far East for just under $1.50 each. The alternate vendors are listed on the right side of the product page.

Hah! I bought some of these for $1.00 at a cheap toy store in Hong Kong about 4 months ago. My kids loved playing with them for several days before they managed to lose all the lights.

These are PERFECT for all sorts of activities where you want to be discrete. I've used them for urban exploring, where I had a regular flashlight in one hand, and one of these (blue) on the tip of my middle finger. If I heard any noise, I could just curl my fist and conceal the light. I also keep one strapped to the "OGWAGD strap" in my car.
