Panasonic 14.1MP Digital Camera for $159.99 + $5.00 shipping
I’m only running in for a second, honey, geez! Just, you know, keep breathing or whatever.
I had the Lumix ZS6 before and it was a very good compact zoom camera. I think anything with Leica lens should be good.
If you're wondering what is the difference between this camera and the other panasonic in the other sponsored deal listing: http://snapsort.com/compare/Panasonic-ZS10-vs-Panasonic-ZS8
$198.98 + Free Shipping @ Amazon. Mostly positive reviews.
I bought this exact camera last time it was up on Woot. I've been very happy with it--it's nice because it comes with everything you need to get started including the 4gig SD card. I've taken it out to the museum, and it did a fine job with different lighting on the auto setting. I've ordered a couple of extra batteries from eBay because I'll be out roaming around this summer with it and I may get a bigger card sometime, but it is great right out of the box as is.
One of the major differences between this Lumix and older ones is that Panasonic FINALLY has the good sense to use H.264 compression rather than MJPEG. That mean being able to hold 4X as much video in the same amount of memory. It was a major reason for preferring Samsung in the past in their battle for megazoom point-and-shoot cameras. In addition, I believe this Lumix finally moves away from the MOV container, which is not well-supported in the Windows world. Ot now uses the more popular MP4 container.
All said, the feature set of this camera is amazing. About the only thing it's missing (which Samsungs have), is the ability to pause while recording video.
I've got one of these and I am very happy with it. It's not perfect if you go down to 1:1 you can see a little fuzz at that level, but it still takes really nice photos. It's quick to startup and is ready to take photos quickly.
I bought this for my wife and we both love it, the GPS is useless for us but it takes really great pics and the zoom is nice
Snapsort.com rates the LUMIX ZS20 as the next nearest competitor to this camera. I see some better features on the ZS20 (such as a true 20x zoom), but it's still in pre-order on Amazin and they want $350 for it! In my opinion, that makes the ZS10 a freakin STEAL at $159! I want one! :-D
bought it last time it was on woot for 160, i love it
Clearly the world needs more geotagged poorly lit photos. Let's make a camera without a hotshoe look like it has one, and trick consumer again.
Meh.
We have a ZS10, and we're very happy with it.
One of the interesting features on this camera is the 3D mode. Put the camera in 3D mode, hold the shutter down and move the camera from left to right. The camera takes a series of photos, then picks out two with the best separation, and stitches them together as a .MPO file that you can view on a 3D TV.
My father is in his 70's and recently bought a 3D TV (so that his grandkids can watch 3D movies at his house, apparently :-) and he gets a great kick out of looking at 3D photos on the screen.
There's only one lens, so any movement between the 2 pictures will cause a discrepancy, so it's really only suitable for still scenes, but if you have access to a 3D TV (active or passive) you should at least check out this feature if you get this camera.
This looks to be the same camera at Costco,$200 delivered but with Costco's 90 day return and full warranty. I think it's worth the extra $35 to buy new if you're a member.

I have had this model for about a month now and I have been happy with the pictures I've taken with it. I am coming from a Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS3 10.1 I do miss the body style of the ZS3, it easier to grip where this one is more sleek. I especially like that they have moved the mode dial to the left of the zoom/shutter. For me it makes it easier to use.
There are so many more features to this one over the ZS3 that I have not gotten around to using them all as yet. You can not use the touch screen while in the settings mode.
To save battery life, I turned off the GPS and have had no problem having a low battery.
I have had good results with most of the pictures I've taken. I used the zoom this weekend to get a shot of a ship that was out of access to me. The shot came out clear.
I read many reviews about this camera before deciding I wanted it. For a point and shoot, I have not been disappointed.
Here's one more to read, a bit more technical and critical, but by people who review cameras for a living. http://www.dpreview.com/products/panasonic/compacts/panasonic_dmczs10
I'm a fan of Panasonic cameras, btw. I'd choose a different one.
@teenracer6: I may be wrong but I don't see where Amazon includes the accessory package.
I have one and it is a great camera with a great feature set. Its only problem is that its low light sensitivity isn't the greatest. The videos looks great, the zoom is awesome with really nice wide angle start. The 200 frames sec super slow-mo video setting is really cool.
Despite its low-light sentivity being not great, it is pretty low noise. I've done 1 minute exposures with it (tripod! on a full moon night), and the blacks stayed black (more than I can say for my Kodak, and it's on par with my Olympus EP1).
The only thing I don't like is that it eats batteries (especially if you use the GPS) compared to my DSLR (which has -- a bigger battery), but you can get additional batteries cheap on Amazon.
@imscience: I eagerly went to that dpreview, but could only access the summary. Which is unfortunate because I really wanted to see more details on the very poor rating on low light/high ISO image quality. But for now I will pass on this. Great features do not offset poor image quality, which i assume is due to the sensor.
Does anyone know if a warranty is offered with this? Seems like a good deal ... but not if it dies two weeks from now and I'm stuck with it.
@speedoo: Couldn't get into the full review either, but did find a head to head with other cameras: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/q311travelzoomgrouptest/
Got this camera on Woot in September. Somehow there is a smudge that shows up when it takes pictures so now the camera is useless. (No, there is not a smudge on the lens.) Used my AMEX extended warrantee that extended the 90 warrantee another 90 days. Got the money in my account on Tuesday. Gonna try this again because I love the camera.
@jseureau: The GPS can also be dangerous if you post your photos on social media. That's because the GPS info is embedded in the photo, and can be seen by anyone who downloads it (as simple as pressing Right-Click in many browsers). If you post often while on vacation, it tells potential stalkers where you are. Perhaps worse, if you post photos taken near your home, online stalkers can easily find your address (or your kid's school, etc). The stupidest scenario involves actual photos taken inside or outside the home. Not only will potential burglars have your address, but they can now plan their break in by seeing your windows, doors, gates, alarm systems, etc.
Turn off GPS unless you really need it.
@jmbunkin: I posted it as a pricing guideline for the deal. It may or may not include everything. Its also more expensive, so who cares if it doesnt have an accessory package?
@speedoo: The full dpreview review is at the link below. It praises the camera's very effective image stabilization but hates the image quality:
"In bright, high-contrast scenes, detail reproduction is high, but the ZS10 has real problems when it comes to resolving low contrast detail. Even at its base ISO, images taken on overcast days look mushy and lifeless at 100% on screen, and image quality drops as the ISO sensitivity is increased. Whilst perfectly usable for small prints or web use, we're disappointed that even at ISO 200, images from the ZS10 show visible chroma noise, and the smudging effects of noise reduction."
@barryspoon: Perhaps the "smudge" is a result of the camera's attempt at noise suppression? Here's what dpreview says about "smudging effects":
"Whilst perfectly usable for small prints or web use, we're disappointed that even at ISO 200, images from the ZS10 show visible chroma noise, and the smudging effects of noise reduction."
@blade22943: According to Woot's product page, this REFURBISHED camera has a 90 day warranty directly from Panasonic. And you can buy a 1 Year SquareTrade warranty for an additional $28.99.
Adorama (various colors) $201.67 with a tripod vs woot $165. The adorama seems to have a full panasonic warranty, but that is not stated in the description. So the prices might be very close.
This is great for spinster and others who like lounging on the beach without sunscreen. The LCD is bright and clear, and the photos are good in sunlight. But if you're ominous, or often take photos in low light or don't like using a flash (i.e. in museums where they're not allowed, or if your subject looks hideously repulsive with flash), details can be lost and colors look flat. That's somewhat disappointing for a camera of this class and cultural tumescence.
How long will this take to arrive after ordering? I forget how long smartpost takes, and I need one of these in a week and a half.
@briannanoob: are you using a translation programme? Very odd vocabulary!
@barakitty: My recent experience with Woot is that it'll get to you in time. A week to a week and a half is about how long it takes to get to NYC. Keep in mind, however, that it's the weekend and won't get shipped until Monday at earliest. Tues or Wed is more likely.
