This strikes me as "if it sounds too good to be true" deals. $119 for a netbook? Almost impossible to find reviews. The one site I did find had terrible reviews.
@debbiedunlap: It's only 533MHZ too, pretty slow even for a netbook.
Not to mention the thing looks terrible. It's like a laptop from the early 90s. If you are paying under $300 on non-holiday times for a netbook you will probably end up with a piece of junk.
Who the hell is Augen?
This thing has Windows CE...
WINDOWS CE.
This is the kind of Netbook that is sold at your local drugstore's electronics aisle.
Well, 533MHz isn't terribly slow for an ARM CPU, running WIndows CE, which is what this appears to be. It isn't really a netbook. It's a "smartbook" or a Windows CE mini-notebook. It's not a "real" PC.
To add to that; my sister bought my little niece one of these and she is very pleased with it. She is 7.
She can google images, look at Dora the Explorer, everything you need for your on the go lifestyle.
Is it just me, or does this say "wi-fi ready" and not give any adapter specs? Sounds kind of like "Cable-ready" or "HD-ready" TV - sure it'll do what you want, you just gotta buy this too....
Where have all the comments gone? Or is the disappearance of the comments, the comment?
This is going to make a fabulous gag gift.
This actually has me kinda intrigued, since its got a mini USB port on the back of it! That means it would probably connect to a standard Windows machine over activesync, since it -does- run WinCE. Which means it's actually more flexible than they let on.
@ceralor, yeah. You caught 'em red handed. Some crafty website-designer is trying to trick all of us dealseekers, so he can keep all of the 533MHz LAPTOPs from the '90s to himself. The conspiracy continues.
In all seriousness though, this would be a great computer for toddlers...beats the hell out of a see-and-say. It's definitely a case of; "You get what you pay for.." (There's a reason it's called "Wince" HA!) Throw a copy for VisualBasic on there and it becomes a learning machine!..Actually, better make that QBasic...
This really is hilarious being sold as a "Netbook" though.
Rockin' a couple THOUSAND megabytes of internal storage! It's basically a really big GPS.
I'm too lazy to make jokes, but I'd appreciate other peoples funnies.
@drchops: And there, you've expertly identified the problem. Buyers of this machine will get hours of endless entertainment playing the built-in game, "Find a Single Useful, Compatible Application". I imagine that no more than 10% of the people who end up buying this thing will actually realize it runs "Windows" and not Windows. (and on a different architecture, no less) Ah, the joy of being stuck browsing the web in a version of IE that's half a decade old and has no plug-in support to speak of.
Netbook. More like NetBRICK. Haha! Or uh...Webparagraph (Net=web, paragraph=book, it's funny if you don't think about it...) What's the Opposite of a net and a book? A Cagepoem?
EDIT:
Haha...you could overclock a PSP and get a better system. At least it'd run UMDs (way under-rated by the way, but equally entertaining to make fun of). Think about how much space you could fit on a LaserDisk using Blu-Ray technology lol....
@rdowling, haha, genius...I never even thought about how fun it'd be trying to run through the internet on that speed demon...you KNOW it's got like an old 802.11b wifi card heh...this reminds me of an auction I was at a few months back in a small town...people were payin' like $500 for 933MHz DELL laptops lol...If anyone orders one of these, please post. Normally I don't spend this much time making fun of stuff and BSing...it's just that I haven't seen something like this in a long time..
Actually, most gps programs run off the windows ce 5.0 OS, and are usually on a sd card. (I have several) Add a $30 touch screen to this, and a usb gps reciever (I have 2), and you have an awsome gps!
Hmmmm not so funny any more. In fact, with the wifi...it can update traffic conditions on the fly! Add a bluetooth usb dongle, and it will answer your cell phone...add a fm transmitter (plugged into the speaker out) and it will play the directions or mp3 songs on your car radio...Hmmm
Yeah, I for one get a killer WiFi signal ONE THE FREEWAY. Especially while using my WinCE LAPTOP and driving at the same time. Screw Starbucks, I just hop on I-5 when I need a WiFi signal.
They have a refurbished for %89 at http://www.ecost.com/Detail.aspx?edp=54770676&source=DealsWoot0310&cm_mmc=Woot-_-Woot-_-deals.woot-_-date0310.
Cheap even for a toddler gift.
