Would be great to buy but no gigabit LAN. Probably could buy one but I believe integrated is better.

Where's brutherford's staff square?

vote-for1vote-against

@psaux: Why does it say he joined today?

vote-for3vote-against

@psaux: They launched some kind of "update" and it messed up my shiz, don't worry though, they are working on it.

I like the url-> http://moofi.woot.com/moofi/letsdoitagain
Very funny. Cuz they sold this before: http://deals.woot.com/deals/details/bfa5ffb8-68c3-4494-b7ec-90aebba91e9e/hp-pavilion-h8-intel-i7-desktop-pc-with-2-tb-hard-drive#36

BTW I got one last time and, after I asked to be sent the correct mouse, it's been great.

Is this a contender for a great HTPC/all around gaming rig or what? Specs are pretty good for the price - plus the Blu-ray and HDMI - Nice!

I do understand the PSU is too small, but otherwise it's a great all-in-one power box. :-)

vote-for0vote-against

@bsmith1: Wait, they sold it last time with more hard drive space, a slightly better processor, and for less money!?

vote-for2vote-against

@bsmith1: In your 1st post, that is from 4 months ago & is a slightly different model, the HP Pavilion H8-1012C.

vote-for1vote-against

@bsmith1: Yep, in your 2nd post that's the same HP Model, HP H8-1117C, from 25 days ago.

This is a pretty good deal on a good computer. The only problems I have is that the radeon hd 6770 is good, but if you're trying to use this computer for serious gaming, you will probably have to upgrade that to keep up with the new games. It will however play current games on medium settings.

I have no idea how they're running all of that off a 300w psu... I wouldn't say you would have to buy a new one, but that one is definitely underpowered...

Lastly, that hard drive is a 5400rpm. It might be fine, but normally your primary hard drive should be 7200rpm...

But overall this is a solid pc for a good price.

I H8 this deal!!!

See what I did there? I am so clever.

So what do I need to add to this for the upcoming Mass Effect 3? I figure if I can run that I can run Battlefield 3 also.

Mass Effect 3 Recommended System Requirements
OS - Windows XP SP3/Vista SP1, Win 7
CPU - 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (equivalent AMD CPU)
RAM - 2GB for XP / 4GB RAM for Vista/Win 7
HDD - 15 GB of free hard disk space
GFX - AMD/ATI Radeon HD 4850 512 MB or greater, NVidia GeForce 9800 GT 512 MB or greater
GFX RAM - 512MB (with Pixel Shader 3.0 support)

@brutherford: Are you sure the the "update" wasn't them "fixing" the payroll error and letting the problem sort itself out, like in Office Space?

vote-for1vote-against

@curtisonline: this computer will run ME3 and BF3 with no problems, not on high settings though. For that you would need to upgrade the PSU and videocard to a 6950 or something similar. To max them out you may need to upgrade a little further but this will play any current game, probably on medium settings

vote-for1vote-against

@curtisonline: You wouldn't need to upgrade anything to run ME3. However BF3 is probably the single most graphically intense game out there right now, if you wanted BF3 on max settings you would need
video card: AMD 6950 2gb or intel 560ti 2gb
8gb of ddr3 1600 ram (this has 1333, which is fine for 99% of things)
and I would personally get a SSD drive for this, at least a 60gb. the SSD will drastically reduce load times compared to a 5400rpm standard HD.
and a power supply, 650watts or a bit more.

Similar to one I just bought from Geeks.com. I posted the deal here. (I won't link to it so as not to offend the woot gods!) The one I bought (for $39 more) had a 2 TB HDD and a 2 GB video card. By the time I posted the deal, it had changed to a 1 GB video card. Everything else looks the same. You can't go wrong at this price.

Yeah it's a good price. For those that want a solid HTPC or affordable gaming system this will fit the bill. For those commenting on the power supply , it is a retail box. Of course they don't come with high watt PS. They give you only what the system needs and not much more, keeps the overall price down in a tough retail market. Plus have you ever seen what the actual wattage of a system like this? My guess would be under full load around 220watts +/- tops, so an el cheapo 300watt will get the job done.

If you like newer games and run anything over a 19" monitor then you will really have to tone down the graphic settings to play smooth. Or you can simply drop in a new Power supply and new 6850 and call it a day.

For HTPC users, just watch for a nice media case and do a hardware transplant. Good deal considering a newer 2600k CPU and all the other bells n whistles.

Can anyone tell me how much better/different Windows 7 is from Vista? I have been using a macbook pro for some time now. Want to get a pc as I need an extra computer, and also want to buy some new games cougholdrepubliccough.

Also, what upgrades would be the most important at first, or give you the most bang for your buck when building off of this system?

vote-for2vote-against

@thalleck: W7 vs Vista = Vista should have never happened. W7 is the way to go

@jsoko: I was just worried on behalf of The Keeper of the Moofi. (It does seem to be almost exclusively brutherford's domain... which must be sweeeeeet.)

vote-for2vote-against

I keep reading about how you need a 560ti or other nice 2GB video card plus top of the line video card to run BF3. It is not true. I have an older i7 CPU, 260GTX video card, 6GB RAM, and BF3 is not installed on an SSD (although I do have one for my OS). I run pretty much every game at high settings including BF3 & Skyrim and don't have lag or choppy gameplay. Sure, it could probably be better but I do my share of fragging and everything looks nice.

In for one. Love it has a blue ray player as well.
