Bought two of these on clearance at the local office supply store on clearance for 160 a month ago. I have no complaints besides these aren't 16:10 monitors. 20 bucks off for refurb. Not bad at all. I play WoW and watch netflix at the same time on an 8800GT with no issues on these guys.
A+ buy.
I think this would be great for watching movies, but otherwise I'd prefer a 16:10 monitor for anything serious. I don't like losing 10% of my vertical space because most content is longer than it is wide and having to constantly scroll to see the "big picture" is incredibly annoying.
Seems like a great price for some replacement server monitors. In for two.
Have never purchased debranded refurbished, but I see no reason as to why they shouldn't be valuable.
As for being too wide for normal use, these will actually be placed vertically so its a great setup for what I'm needing.
I've had one of these for over 5 months and it works great. It's basically a re-branded HP monitor.
Does anyone know if this is the HP 2310m.
How is this debranded? Do they mar the surface at all? Does it look bad?
Thanks.
hp2309 I think? It's just a globe logo instead of HP - no tiger claw scrapes or anything.
@gkcmilner: I have a Famous Maker TS2509 that has been rebranded in 4 spots. There's a spot for a logo at the center-bottom of the screen, that has a "globe" looking sticker on it. There's a hole behind that, so I've left it on. On the lower-right corner, there was a sticker that said something (HD Display?) over the silkscreened "HP 2509m", and once I peeled that off there was a bit of sharpie over the lettering. On the back, there's a large "HP" logo embossed on the panel covering the VESA mount...this had a plain black sticker, IIRC. Finally, the spec/serial/etc sticker on the back has been replaced with one from the refurbisher. Since that's relevant to the current purchase/warranty, I left it on.
Been very happy with the monitor! 23" 1080p for this price is a great deal.
A tip to keep in mind if you use the HDMI input, through the HDMI output of an ATI video card. It'll see this monitor as a TV, and enable an "underscan" feature, thinking you might be losing some of the picture.
Follow the instructions here: http://www.hack7mc.com/2010/05/ati-gpu-scaling-removing-the-black-bars.html to remove the border and see the whole screen.
Thanks for the replies, very helpful. I can't see any real reason not to get this at this price then.
Is this a glossy display panel? I don't mind a glossy bezel, but I don't really want a glossy screen. Thoughts?
FAMOUS MAKER = HP?
@mkentosh: Debranded HP, yes.
This is the HP 2310m
I got this the last time it was on moofi for $150. I think I'm gonna get another one so I can have dual monitors of the same size and resolution.
Well I just got this monitor and it's borked.
There's some serious banding going on. I'm hoping it's just a setting though?
Sigh...if anyone knows how to fix this that'd be great...
Are you using hdmi/dvi or a vga cable to hook up the monitor? In my experience, vga cables don't do too good with today's higher res monitors.
Does moofi.woot send a shipping confirmation/tracking number? I ordered this 7 days ago now... wondering when its going to ship...
@rabidfurball: It's officially "typically ship within 5 business days". This means while they may often ship it sooner, and sometimes ship it late, don't count this shipping before the 5th business day. You may still not get the tracking information for a day or 3 after that too.
Also, try searching with your order # (as the "reference number") and zip code at https://www.fedex.com/AltRefTracking?cntry_code=us Since there's a 15 day +/- window from ship date, you should be able to leave it as the current date. This should get you a tracking number, and may even show it only a day or two away if you're lucky. Then, the day after it arrives, you'll get the shipping notice email. :D
@mlindholm: I just found that link elsewhere, entered my order number, and it did in fact ship yesterday from Yuma, AZ. Estimated delivery date to NY: April 27th.
I was aware of the ~5 days for general woot, but i'm still not sure exactly how moofi.woot is supposed to work. It seems like they send out all the orders for that week, once a week, until they run out...
@mushroomstick: I'm using DVI and its just... bad. Colors are all off and sometimes there are really bad color bands.
I think it's just my monitor though.
Oddly, it sometimes works just right but for the most part it doesn't.
I use a Macbook Pro 13" and it doesn't really work on either mac side or windows side (although I'm using XP). If anyone knows how to fix this, I'm all ears!
So i got my monitor today, but am experiencing backlight problems.
When I turn on the monitor or switch sources, it looks great for a few seconds, and then the backlight shuts off. Does this mean the backlight is broken? I would expect it to be dim all the time if this were the case... anyone else ever have a problem like this?
Either way I'm annoyed. you'd think they'd turn these things on at least once after refurbishing them...
@rabidfurball: Yeah, seems you've got a busted refurb. Time for an RMA...unfortunately the return shipping won't be just $5 like Woot paid to ship it. Probably a flaky inverter, but who knows.
@jooooshkim: Seems like you too got a bad one, unless it's just the chipset in the Mac having issues. You tried it on a PC (not just Windows, but "PC" hardware) yet? If it sometimes works right, sometimes doesn't, it's not likely your computer, but the monitor...especially if other monitors work OK.
Sent it back to woot for a refund. Woot emails you a paid-for shipping label, which is nice.
Decided to get this one instead for $169:

ASUS VH238H Black 23" Full HD HDMI LED Backlight LCD Monitor w/Speakers 250 cd/m2 ASCR 50,000,000:1
How do the speakers perform on this monitor? Thinking to replace a little 13" tube TV with this for xbox gaming and future use as a desktop monitor, but if that audio port is an input only the speakers will need to be at least servicable for my bedroom. Thoughts?
@donaesthesaint: On my 25" model, they're a little quiet and lacking bass, but they're usable for general PC sounds, watching TV, and general use. You'll certainly get better sound out of speakers hooked up to your L/R audio out on the X-Box though. That, and since it's a monitor (not a TV), there's no remote to adjust volume, just buttons. And speaking of those buttons, you have to hit volume down first, then you can turn it up. Volume up first is the source selector button.
