Woot is selling cell phone contracts now. Sweet!

@wootbretz: Actually Amazon (who owns woot) is selling the contract, and woot is only showing the deal through a user submitted deal.

"New customers to sprint will get the phone or $0.01"

Personally, I'd rather take the $0.01.

Ahh the joys of a smartphone data plan.

The gift that keeps on giving.

The EVO series is a great set of phones (EVO 3D, EVO Shift, and EVO 4G) I would definitely recommend them!

Love my Evo, and love Sprint!

-This coming from a guy who gets a new phone/contract every year...

Wow... I'm amazed at the love for the evo and even sprint network here? Sprint has horrid coverage (I know, I'm stuck on their network right now) compared to almost any major cellphone provider. The only thing they have going for them is their unlimited data plan.

The evo is absolute trash, I have seen way too many people unable to run waaaay too many apps and failing because they have an evo 3 or evo 4g, it's a junk phone if you want to be able to run anything on it.

@j3jymann: I've never not been able to run an app on my Evo... Of course most people aren't as technically inclined as I am, but I've hardly had to tweak this phone at all...

And in Southern California, Sprint's coverage beats AT&T by far... And it's equal to Verizon...

@j3jymann: I am not sure if you have an EVO but I do and I love it. Same with the wife. Trashing a great phone with blanket generalizations does not cut it. Go ahead and try the other cell carriers with their measly 250gb cap and talk to me how good sprint is.

Can't we all just get along

I've been using an EVO Shift for the last 6 months or so, it's a great device. The slider is a little awkward if you're coming from a Blackberry keyboard, but it's well-designed (a dedicated '?' key is nice for example).

For a brief period, my Shift was broken and I used an EVO 4G until my Shift could be replaced. It's also a very nice device (the kickstand is neat!). I personally prefer the Shift (hard keyboard is essential for terminal emulation and remote screen viewing via VNC, both of which I do frequently).

The above comment by @j3jymann should be taken with a grain of salt. ANY Android device will be lousy if too much bloat is installed. Stay away from lots of widgets and services, and your phone should stay snappy. The recent OTA upgrade to Android 2.3.3 has drastically improved the phone's performance (although be warned, this new version has NOT been rooted yet, but the fre3vo devs are working on it).

My only complaint is that Sprint does have less coverage.

@snoopjedi: Actually if you've rooted your phone prior to to updating to Gingerbread (2.3.3) you will be fine. I upgraded my EVO 4G to Fresh Evo 4.2 (which is an HTC Sense ROM running Gingerbread 2.3.3 minus all of the Sprint bloatware), and my phone is still rooted. Haven't tried rooting it again since the update, but it's working flawlessly on Gingerbread. I love the new Fastboot feature! :)

anything has to be better than AT&T.

Coverage definitely depends on local geography and cell layout ... and on the number of customers trying to all cram onto the same cell.

I can't speak to the shift specifically but the Evo 3D is freaking AMAZING, hands down easily the best phone I've ever owned (though to be fair the phone before this was a palm pre, so talk about a low bar...). I haven't even felt the need to root it, if I do end up doing so it'll only be to enable the wifi tethering and get rid of the crapware that sprint puts on their phones. But if the shift is half as good as the evo then this is a killer deal.

@evothedon: http://htcevohacks.com/htc-evo-hacks/root-for-htc-evo-4g-gingerbread-is-here/ you can root 2.3.3. evo now. i just did it. it was pretty easy. ive rooted 2.2 with unrevoked before too.
