wow, great deal! The product page says "no annoying ads," which I'm assuming means it's the non-special -offers version, though it could be taken to mean that they think their ads are sufficiently soothing. ;-)

I got one of these from Target for $49 on Black Friday. Very easy to setup and easy to read on.

Whenever I try to check out on the website I get this error: We're having temporary difficulties arriving at the destination you requested

Anyone else getting that or know a way around it? Tried checking out multiple times on multiple browsers

I got this for $40 on black friday at walmart.

Went to sears (where it was advertised for $40) but they handed out tickets and I wasn't going to give up thanksgiving to get there super early for a cheap ebook reader so I left and on the way back I hit up walmart and they price matched it.

@superllama7: To my knowledge there isn't a special offers version of the Nook, only the Kindle.

We got one of these last spring for our 12 y/o birthday, and I loved reading on it so much better than our iPad that I got a Nook Glow in August, and we'll be getting one for our 10 y/o for Christmas.

A hearty recommendation from me and my family!

@jbenjimin: oops! You're correct, B&N doesn't do ads on their readers. We have a Kindle and a Nook in our house, and I got them a bit confused.

I am having same problem. Have been trying for 2 days. Came up with a customer service number and called it. The guy tried to put the order through on his end using my info and got same error. Emailed them and they said it had to do with addressed in system prior to 2004 and to add a new address then delete old address. Tried that and same problem. They also told me to delete cookies and restart browser. Tried that in Firefox and IE9 still same problem. About at wits end. Anybody have any more suggestions?

@lynnkern: I contacted customer service and had the same issue as you. The rep I spoke to allegedly sent a ticket into their site issues department and they are supposed to contact me when it is resolved via email. She said this happens on occasion with tire specials so I assume there's an issue with the way they entered the product on their end.

I too have been trying for two days now. Here is what I've tried without success:
-Used chrome and ie from multiple computers
-Sent an email to customer service (no response yet)
-Tried checking out as a guest
-Accessed site from my phone
-downloaded mobile app, but this deal can't be purchased from the app

Literally, I would have earned a lot more than the amount "saved" by working for the amount of time I've been trying to get this to work, and would have been less frustrated doing so, so I'm going to throw in the towel at this point. Will have to go with a full price retailer so I can be sure to get it in time for gifting.

@toddlybumbum: I have gotten 3 email replies from customer service. I just got the last one and all they said on this one was they were working on it. They did give me a number to call. If you would like to try it here it is. You can call 1-800-966-6546 option 5, and we would be happy to try again for you. Haven't called them yet.

@admancs: I just spent about 30 minutes on phone with customer service. Every thing he suggested, I had already done. He tried putting order in twice from his computer and got same error. He said it is a site issue and is forwarding it to the site administrator. Don't know what is happening from here. They are supposed to call me when they find out something. We will see !!!! Will update.

@lynnkern: all of those reasons they told you are BS. I setup a walmart.com account today and it's doing the same thing. Did it to the rep on the phone too. I'm still on hold with them. If anything positive comes out to resolve this issue we are all getting, I will definitely comment on the thread.

@lynnkern: Did the same thing as admans. Was on the phone with a very nice customer rep for about 20 minutes. She escalated it on to tech for the site as well. My personal guess, is that the gift card aspect of the transaction is playing havoc on the final process piece for some reason. That or something is out of whack with inventory control and the item may not even supposed to be live with customers on the site. In any case, here's hoping tech gets it resolved and lets us all know what will be the final outcome, ordered or not available.

@lightspiral: I finally gave up and went to the store. Didn't realize it was available in store until reading about it on here. Be sure and call store before you go to make sure they have the $79 Nook as I had to go to 3 different stores before I found one. Had the girl at the second store check and see who had it then she called to make sure. Got the $30 gift card with it also when I checked out. Good Luck

I just went to the store and picked it up as well. There were some photocopied signs taped to the display case about the $30 gift card. It seems like no many people know about this as the case was full of them.
