Your service agreement says no, and if your busted, they end your service.

@sparepocket: they are really down on that, but if you go to Google Play, there is a tether app that supposedly screens your tethering. I've used it, albeit a bit sparingly, and it works well, but don't do any streaming or downloading. If you just want to surf and e-mail, I've not had a problem. Also, keep it to 100mb/day and 2gb/month. Another app called 3g Watchdog (free and works great) is a great way to monitor your data usage, as it most certainly is not "unlimited"

edit: I'm not recommending either way, so enter at your own risk

Both my wife and I have this phone. Coverage has not been an issue, it's much better than the AT&T 3G on my first gen iPad. The slide-out keyboard is nice for people, like me, who hate touch pads. There are cheaper phones out there if you don't want a slide out.

Oops, this is a Straight Talk phone, ours are Net10 aka TracFone, so I can't say how good the coverage is. If it sucks, for $5 you can get a Net10 sim.

Does anybody know if you can tether with Straight Talk?

this is not on the Verizon network. When it prompts you to enter a zip code, enter a Montana one, i.e. 59404, as Montana basically only has V. Then it will list the phone models for that area using verizon network (it will also show an outline of the USA with red-colored coverage). I bought the Proclaim and went to a farm in very rural NE Iowa, and was able to use the 3g and post pix to FB while out in the boonies. But so far I think ST only has 2 Android models utilizing Verizon's 3g network (same with Net10)

I've also had this phone for Virgin Mobil... Sprints Network... The service foot print is different between the two CDMA networks... also the box I bought at the store level was listed as CDMA-V.....

I have this phone and love it!!!!! The coverage is handled by Verizon.... I live in a fringe coverage area and Verizon handles the fringe in my area better than the others. The only real disadvantage to this phone is I run out of internal memory real quickly.

@daninboulder: You've tested that and it works? Nice! I'm sold on the phone if I'm getting Verizon coverage.

@daninboulder: Oh wait, it seems if you enter the zip code 59404, it doesn't offer this particular sale phone. :(
