I think I'll buy one of these to hold me over until my Touchpad arrives

Anybody know if any retailers match gift cards? I'd rather not buy from the great Satan of retail - since I'm in Minnesota, the lesser Satans are all at least local...

@buysse Usually they will not match a store branded gift card like this offer. But it could be worth a try and on an independent store level the store manager might do it for you.

Product is not sold online, store only.

do they charge recycling fees for tablets?

I guess the rumors were true. Assuming you shop at Walmart, this is a great deal for someone looking to take the tablet plunge without sinking 600+ bucks on an iSheep or overpriced Samsung.

@mrmunkmunk: Why? If you have a tablet in almost any condition someone will give you money for it.

I have a Fire so don't need another but this looks like a great deal. Wonder if this is the beginning of a price drop on these?

I'd buy one right now if it had an SD card. You can't buy that many decent apps because there is no where to store them. Don't see why they didn't include one, it wouldn't reduce the # of people getting content from them, those people don't know any other way, and I would get most of my content from Amazon, I like the Amazon store, I just want to be able to store what I buy and not have to constantly transfer stuff around. My ipod has 32gigs, 8gigs is abysmal.

I wonder if I'll still get a $50 gift card if I pay for the Kindle with a different gift card. I just happen to have a $200 Walmart gift card laying around...

this is a great deal. That is a great gadget for $150. I'm thinking about getting one, I just feel like the only reason I'm getting it is because its a good deal and not because I even remotely need this.

@shahram72: They do that to keep the cost of the product down.

@qporscheq: Once you start using a tablet, you will wonder how you survived without one.

No such thing as a Fire with ads.

@shahram72: It's got a decent size and supports amazon cloud which helps a ton with storage space. I wish it had 3g but then it'd cost double this price. For $150 it's a steal and in case you already have a nook you can find a work around to get your nook books on the kindle fire using the android nook app.

this is a great deal! amazon is already losing money on these since they want to get you into their ecosystem so you buy books, music, etc., from them.

they're a very nicely put together piece of work. i've got an ipad, a fire and a android tablet that i got on woot! a while back - and the ipad beats the 10" tablet by a mile. but the fire, even comparing it to the ipad, has a lot to like. it does most everything the ipad does, and i like the slightly smaller form factor better. i don't mind carrying the fire in a coat pocket - but the only way to carry the ipad is in the pocket of a scottevest jacket.

and one nice thing about amazon - they don't get their panties in a knot like apple if you jailbreak a fire. at this price, it might be worth it for a spare. i highly recommend it.

My local Walmart stores restocked yesterday and I was finally able to pick one up!

I picked one up yesterday. I called and 2 walmarts in the area were sold out, so get them fast. I have to say i was rather disappointed in the regular kindle fire. The kindle part is kind of second tear for me, i wanted it for web browsing and using apps. If your looking to use it for the later gaining root access is the way to go. Once you root the device it turns from a basic device for consuming amazon content to a real awesome android tablet. As a android tablet for 150 with a supportive company behind it and ability to easily consume a lot of media it's awesome, if you root it. If you read a lot of kindle books and want something a little extra it's also awesome. But if kindle books are not top priority and your not comfortable with rooting you might want to research it a bunch before making a rash decision.

The Auburn, WA store stocked up on these yesterday. Picked one up last night. My boyfriend is a super-happy-camper.
