I bought a Roku from them as well with no issues. I think I may need to be this one for my new guest room

Been wanting to pull the trigger on one of these for a while now. Anyone know how the free channels are out of the box? What do you owners use it for the most? Do I need to signup/subscribe/pay for anything before I start using it or can I just connect to WiFi and start browsing channels?

@dfunkmaster: Good product, we use ours most with Netflix and Hulu. There are lots of free channels, but you'll find they are ad supported. Some have better quality content than others. You can get Lots of older kung fu and cowboy movies, lots of religious programming, big networks that have clip highlights of their popular shows, certain podcasts from NPR shows, and programming from other countries (India, Korea, etc.). The beauty of this product is the great user interface when browsing Netflix- really the best way to watch Netflix, period.

@dfunkmaster: Also great for streaming music from Pandora, or your own music from Amazon's Cloud Player. Or you can access your photos stored on Flickr or Picasa.

If anyone is waffling: I bought my Roku 2 XS as a refurb on 1SaleADay.com. The processing always takes long, but I'm always satisfied with the quality and service from their site.

This model Roku is not mentioned on Roku.com any more — it's the Roku 3 without a headset on the remote, Roku 3 may be dual band, too? — but I have been assured that the Roku 2 XS will be receiving the upcoming interface update. I was also told that they are actively working on a solution to provide a YouTube app as they keep killing the knockoff YouTube apps that work flawlessly (RIP VideoBuzz); if you really need to watch "Mickey Mouse Clubhouse," check out Twonky Beam, which is exceptional. At the end of the day, this makes more sense to me than a "smart" TV because if it goes, well, it's $60. Not an entire TV.

Get the app and operate the Roku from your phone; the device plays well with home networks, there are tons of free beaming apps ... if you have a need for a streaming device, get this one.

I bought my last one refurb, still working well.

For anyone that wants to watch YouTube. Setup Plex Media Server on your computer and install the YouTube app in Plex. Then load the Plex app on the Roku.

A bonus is that you can have Plex index any video files on your computer, so that you can watch them also.

Plex is the best channel for Roku, going away.. you have to work around a few things, but add the 'Let Me Watch This' channel in Plex, just an incredible amount of content worth watching there.

I'm sorry but what is so great about roku? Is it if you don't have a ps3 or xbox 360 or blu-ray with wifi? We have one and really don't have much use for it. We tried netflix but really nothing worth watching on there after a couple months.

@hoops645: You are correct. I have outgrown gaming systems and do not own a blu-ray with WiFi.

@dgraedon, doclumas - Thanks for the feedback. I still haven't pulled the trigger. Got about 40 minutes left. I'm surprised it's not sold out...I guess I'm interested in some of the obscure programming you could find, maybe even some news or educational content. The NPR shows sound good. I don't have Netflix so I suppose I wouldn't watch it for that. I don't know...still can't decide.

But I do have Amazon Prime...hmmmm...

Picked up 2 of these a while back. Has a wired ethernet, USB for movies on a stick/drive, microSD for storage of games/device data(optional) and an interesting remote. I like the fact this has Netflix, Hulu Plus, Amazon Prime and HBO GO. It can play most MKV and MP4 files from a USB drive. Pandora is great. Vudu gives you an on demand/pay per view access to recent releases. It's a real cord cutter device. My girlfriend played Angry Birds with the motion control remote and it was really fun and I had zero expectations for games on this thing. We're in our late 30's, so we're not 'gamers', but it was a great time killer and well executed. The new Roku 3 with the headphone is novel if you have a loved one you don't want to bother/wake if you watch it solo, but I don't find that an issue with multiple TVs in the house. If you don't need the headphone in the remote get this with confidence that the new interface that got great reviews will be coming to you soon too as stated above.

No thanks, the rebate thing killed it for me. Great price though.

@topal: There wasn't a rebate? 1saleaday doesn't do rebates.

@morriea: It's dead because this was yesterday's 1saleaday main item...

@dfunkmaster: lol..I know. I posted it, and killed it.
