I'm pretty sure this is not to any type of scale.

@runyonr: it's tipping the scale of awesomeness.

@oo7slice: With that, I will agree.

I'm pretty sure it's not to my price scale.

The LEGO Star Wars Death Star features:

* Set Contains 3,802 Pieces.
* Includes 24 minifigures and droids, plus all-new Dianoga trash compactor monster!
* Death Star measures 16 inches (41cm) tall and 16 1/2 inches (42cm) wide!
* Movie-authentic Death Star environments

I'd love to have one but too expensive for a toy I'd use once.

@barnabee: But hey, you get a free Star Wars figure!

One of the greatest ideas about LEGO is that you don't HAVE to just build it once, you can use the parts to build whatever your imagination can come up with.
That said personally I'd rather buy more sets from themes that hold greater interest to me, all that gray would be nice to have but it IS a large outlay for a single set.

i should get into the small plastic interlocking brick business, these guys probably make a killing.

I can't wait to recreate the explosion scene.

@turkeymonkey: LOL I would have to agree ;-)

Out of stock for shipping and not available for in store pickup. 'Deal' is dead.

If it comes with Boba Fett, I'm in.

i've seen a built up version of this in person and it is pretty impressive. the most impressive part of the whole thing is that the entire deathstar is held up by four stacks of single lego blocks. each stack is about 3 inches tal - it looks very weak. and i was tasked with moving this ill-supported deathstar across the room so that we could access the table it was sitting on. talk about nerveracking.

My nephew would love this.. he loves legos and already wants to join the darkside lol

$360 for a 16" x 16" ball of legos? Wow not sure this is a deal, looks really cool but not for that price.

@boopiejones: You should have just had "the help" move it around. That is what rich people do, isn't it?

vote-for1vote-against

Jeez, which one is greater the exchange rate for plastic or gold?

vote-for3vote-against

Couldn't you achieve the same effect by dipping a basketball in glue and rolling it through a pile of old Legos?

vote-for2vote-against

That's no moon that's the outstanding balance on my credit card after buying this!

Personally I do not find this version of the Death Star very engaging. Lego made a "Death Star II" model you can see here:
http://www.brickset.com/detail/?Set=10143-1

It's a scale(ish) model rather than being a sphere with movie scenes inside. It's also slightly bigger, about 15%. Of course everone who didn't think that the set in the deal was a "deal" will like this one even less... you won't find it for under $800 new:

@souldrain69: After looking at the instructions, I might need a few six-packs to get through that one...

Every time you buy a Star Wars themed product, George Lucas films himself punching a kitten, then puts the beat up kitten in one of the old star wars films; soon to be re-re-re-re-released on Blueray.

I might have to pick one of these up and save it for the last month before the 2012 Mayan doomsday. That way after I build it, I can have died after doing the most awesome thing ever, and hence win.
