@gt0163c

Darn you beat me to it!

Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!

Not a great deal. But this is Firefly after all. Buy three and turn two friends into Browncoats!

I'm pretty sure this is on Netflix/Prime.

Last week, after years of strangers and friends raving about this show, I finally started watching the first episode. Is there a point that it starts getting good? Because so far, I'm not seeing what the big deal is.

I've told myself I'll give it two more episodes to pick up.

@bdutton: seriously, I got this for $9.99 a few weeks ago.

@bdutton: Five turned Browncoat to date - working on more. I'm on a mission!

@digitalfoobar
but why just stream it when you can support such a wonderful show...

=( there is still a piece of my heart missing... SOO many questions!!!!

I will upvote Firefly/Serenity deals every time I see them because I have a pipe dream that if enough people buy them they will do a second season or sequel.

@tcanning: its not for everyone... but it speaks to me... I just love the storyline the guns and the girls =P

and o yea did I say action?

Great series, but I had trouble loading Disc #3, returned it for another - still "Invalid Region" on Disc #3 - so if you get this - try to load disc #3 right away.
I got several DVD (not Blu-ray) on Black Friday at Best Buy for $5.88 each...

Still - a great series, and don't forget to also get Serenity to watch after watching the series.

@tcanning The first episode kind of thrusts you in awkwardly. I felt the same way at first. After another episode or two, I couldn't stop watching though.

Not that I have a Blu-ray player, but does Blu-ray release offer any additional stuff over the original DVD release?

And seriously, if you have not watched Firefly... IT ISN'T TOO LATE!!! This show is so good and I am not even a Whedon wonk (never watched Buffy or Dr. Horrible, but I did see some of that show with the brainwashed people with that cute girl from Bring it On, yeah, I watched it... Eliza Dushku...)

vote-for1vote-against

@tcanning: It really really really really hasn't aged well. There's a good chance those strangers and friends saw it back when it first came out, or when it got cancelled, or when the ensuing crushing buzz machine was... buzzing.

I watched it a year or two ago for the first time, and while I suffered my way through the entire series, it just seemed dated and cheesy. And not in a good way.

vote-for1vote-against

@tcanning: I felt the same way for the most part. The first episode actually didn't air originally because hardly anything was going on in it. I think it did ultimately, but after the second epsiode. Things start picking up as you get to the third and fourth. I just felt it got better and better as it went along.

@firebert: Besides in increase in resolution, there's new extras on the Blu-ray not on the DVD. A 28-minute mini-reunion with Joss Whedon, Nathan Fillion, Rob Glass, and Alan Tudyk (recorded in 2008), and a commentary tack for "Our Mrs. Reynolds" featuring the same.

@starbob: The pilot was actually the last episode to air before the show was canceled, after 10 episodes! (3 episodes never made it to air) I watched the show as it aired and loved it after the first episode aired, "The Train Job." That said, it does pick up a bit, especially from the pilot, and it may not be to everyone's tastes. I don't really see it as dated though, since it was going for a stylized old-west-meets-outerspace theme.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like I need to push through the first episode. I figure all I have to lose is about 12 hours of my life that I'd normally be sleeping or watching something else.

Besides, I'd like to have some insight on all of the Firefly-reference TeeFury and Woot shirts.

@firebert: Better quality, duh. I can never watch in 480 i again, and at 240 hz mmmmmmm.... Tosty

J&R Music currently has this set for $14.99 at:

Shipping to my address bring the final cost to $17.98 which is a penny less than Amazon before shipping.

Not the lowest I've seen it. I bought it when it was $12.99 awhile ago.

I can't think of Firefly and not think of Sheldon Cooper hating the Fox network...
