Toshiba Satellite Pro C650-EZ1520D Notebook PC (New) for $579.99 + shipping
Fortunately, the focus-group reaction was negative enough for Toshiba to abandon their other PC idea, the lapbottom.
Anyways, this laptop has intel graphics, so don't expect to be able to play anything but those awful facebook games on it. The screen resolution, at 1366x768 is rather lackluster for 15.6" screen in this price range, I'd expect it to be higher. The lack of any sort of digital video output will also end being an inconvenience, monitors and other devices are almost all DVI/HDMI/DisplayPort now. At $580 it just doesn't add up.
imho, you'd be better off picking up something from the AMD Vision line. You'll get better graphics, and be able to run GPU accelerated programs as well as play actual games. A good number of them will also come with an HDMI or DisplayPort output as well.
I buy all my computer crap at Costco.com they double the warranty and you get to call THEM on their Concierge line for the first year. I have done this and it is a miracle a human being answers the phone and everything. They spent 5 hours on the phone helping me fix problems on my laptop.
Well worth the extra I pay in tax. Also I can return any device to my local Costco if I have a problem. Much easier than shipping back, which is expensive and more than anything a hassle.
Link is down?..
The TD mo is 'strip down, mark up' - be very careful to check the full specs. In particular note only 2 USB and VGA - no HDMI. Shared memory video. Appears to have a webcam.
@krumlov: Link is not down.
@markmc27: i've returned multiple laptops for repair to ASUS, HP, and Toshiba. All prepaid 2nd day shipping and they fixed everything. Who have you been dealing with that costs you so much time and money to return ?
Uhh...not much of a deal. This is $579.99 everywhere. Probably never sold for over $699.99 anywhere.
Meh... if it was 2007 I might jump on this, but right now I would rather spend the extra $100 and get something a bit more 2011.
It has 8GB of RAM and a Dual Core 2.1GHz. Sure the CPU sucks, but everything else about this computer is very current. I think some people are just being techy picky :)
