I really have mixed feelings about this.

We all know what the right thing to do would have been and if done, BB would come out looking like a hero, a knight in shining armor for all of us that missed out on the fire sale back in August. BUT NOOOO..... BB has to be all greedy about it and demand ALL your money! I'm still planning to pick one up on fleabay for under $240.

best buy is great. Us internet folk just firget what it is like to need help with shopping for electronics. Anyway, this is a great deal if u want a decent tablet at a crazy low price

vote-for2vote-against

as far as my experience go.....BB is one of the costliest electronic item stores around the world....and usually products are made as per their demands....in almost all items you can find products specially made to sell at BB...and they are crappy in comparison to the original ones....I only go to BB stores for mood-fresh.... ;) ....BB is not for purchasing any thing....not for me....

vote-for2vote-against

Bummer. BB doesn't carry the Probook. I kinda have my heart set on it. Still, I love my Touchpad and $149 for a 32GB is still a great deal if BB carries the computer you want.

vote-for2vote-against

How the hell do you actually do it though? I've logged into bestbuy and tried to buy it 1:30am eastern, and there simply is no way to add a touchpad. Yes, I followed the instructions on their sale page and yet I cannot add the precious.

I'm surprised this deal hasn't gotten more down votes it truly deserves.

HP strung lots of folks along for months, implying that the "second batch" of cheap Touchpads would meet the demand of interested buyers, and posted a "sign up for restock notification" on their site. A bit later, they excited us with the promise that the new batch would be available soon. (SOON!) They even went out of their way to explain that safeguards would be put in place to prevent greedy opportunists from buying 30 and then turning around and selling them for three times their price on eBay.

When the restock notification came, it was in the form of a brief "Sorry, we're out for good." And this was after a couple months of diligently checking their website. As a guy who had three of his Touchpad orders cancelled during the initial fire sale, this was very disappointing.

@hudsm9589: If the people working at Best Buy had any idea of how to help someone looking for electronics, that might mean something. Around here, at least, they know less than the average customer.

It may have a 7" screen instead of a 10" and a slower processor, but THIS is the deal folks should be looking at for an inexpensive tablet: http://deals.woot.com/deals/details/b2306d91-d1f7-4ded-97f7-5f92abd07bb1/nook-color-refurb-certified-pre-owned

"Hacked" with Cyanogenmod, this will give you potentially more use due to the inclusion of the Android market. It took me about an hour to do (I was messing up step creating the "rooting" microSD) and was totally worth it.

First of all. HP COMPUTERS SUCK. The touchpad was a step up, but buying a crappy laptop for a touchpad is a huge waste of money. Just buy a touchpad on ebay or craigslist and save yourself the hassle of buying a laptop too.

"HP TouchPad available for individual purchase, outside of the bundle offer, for $599.99."

Really? $600? A couple of fantastic, not obsolete WebOS, but Android tablets are $400.

vote-for8vote-against

@banai: Like I said, I'm surprised people aren't down voting this "deal" more.

Way to go HP! You are OOS on Touch Pad forever and Best Buy comes up with enough for a national promotion. If you buy HP or Compac.computer You said email respondents would get first crack at any additional inventory. Looks like HP and Best Buy are now sleeping partners.I will certainly look elsewhere for my printer toner now. Once again , thanks!

@cappo: Man you hit the nail on the head. Sometimes when I'm in Best Buy I catch bits of conversation when a sales person is explaining how something works or what they need for their home office or theater. Some of the crap they spew out would be hilarious if it wasn't confusing the customer or causing them to waste money on stuff they don't need. Makes me want to correct them , but I know it's not my job. Most of the Geek Squad people are pretty "uninformed" also. To put it nicely.

FFS Best Buy, atleast offer the tablet as a free extra, then maybe it will be a real incentive... im a mac guy who has had horrible HP PC experiences, so id never buy one anyway ;)

vote-for3vote-against

Buy the computer + the touchpad, then return the computer only?

vote-for4vote-against

@domainloco: Nope. From their FAQ http://tinyurl.com/3rrfk4v :

What is the return and exchange policy?

This offer qualifies for Best Buy's standard 14-day return policy with the following addendums:

The return must be a complete return of the bundle. If the customer wants to keep the TouchPad, they must pay the difference with the stand-alone pricing ($450).
If there are any issues with the TouchPad, the customer will need to fulfill service through HP TouchPad service and technical support at HP's service number (877-426-3777).

I bought a laptop from Bestbuy once. The DC port was a poor fit for the cord, so the soldering came loose from the board. I had a three year warranty with them, so I sent it in. Weeks later, they sent the machine back without fixing the issue, but with a wiped hard drive. Thanks, Bestbuy!

P.S. I wasn't offered a backup service by the representative there either. Fortunately, I had made a backup a few days ago, but there's still potentially a hard drive they PROMISE they destroyed with my military medical records and some business financial records on it out there.

This is simply rediculous! I too am disapointed by this 3 ring circus called HP touchpad. I ordered and got canceled, checked for the updated inventory status regularly, stood in line to be the 81st person out of the 80 getting one, and still came out empty handed. I put too much effort in this. I'm out. Time to get an Asus Tablet.

vote-for2vote-against

Totally the wrong forum, I get it - BUT - will trade my new in box 32gb touchpad for a T-Mobile Galaxy S2. Just putting it out there.

vote-for5vote-against

Best Buy just shot themselves in the foot. Nasty, nasty, nasty.

vote-for8vote-against

If you have the patience, here is a loophole to having to return to the "bundle" and paying the additional $450 for the Touchpad.

1.You can buy the cheapest hp laptop with the touch pad so that you get it for $149.

2.Then Exchange the laptop for another HP laptop the next day (which will give you a completely different exchange receipt with no mention of the touchpad).

3.Return the laptop within 14 days with the new exchange receipt, as the person making the exchange will not know that you bought the Touchpad with it originally and therefore won't charge you the extra $450 for it, or make you return it.

There, you have your money back and keep the Touchpad (along with the old, original purchase receipt) for $149.

Worst that will happen is that you have to return to bundle, best thing is you get the Touchpad for $149. I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work though, and will try it in the morning. Will let ya'll know the end result. Good luck!

vote-for1vote-against

This deal sucks big ol' donkey balls. You're telling me that i need to buy a desktop, laptop, or bundle to buy a touchpad. I want to buy the touchpad so i don't need a desktop, laptop, or bundle at home. If I need a keyboard, i'll use the one at work (like i am now!)

I'm gonna just hit up amazon and get the 16GB one for $200+/-.

vote-for2vote-against

I hope this makes someone out there feel a little better. I did get a touchpad in the fire sale, but it's very so-so. A 2.5 out of 5, maybe. Nice screen size to play angry birds....ummmm...trying to think of what else...

HP is totally screwing people on this BB thing. I really hope stevedog1's plan works.

vote-for-7vote-against

Come on, why does everything with the word “touchpad” get a lot of downvotes

vote-for4vote-against

@danpadeal Because this is not a deal. You have to buy a crappy computer to have the privilege to buy absolete technology.

vote-for5vote-against

You'd best buy elsewhere.. :-þ

vote-for2vote-against

this makes me wish I NEEDED a laptop
