I own two of these, the Roku XD|S and a Roku HD-XR. Best investments I have ever made. I cannot recommend highly enough to get one of these at this price. There are so many channels, most of which are free and most of the commercial services are there also including Hulu Plus.

I have my XD|S hooked up to a 60 inch LCD with 5.1 surround, 1080p looks AMAZING from it. Netflix streaming is flawless as is Amazon VOD, Youtube and more.

The second is hooked to a 42 inch 720p LCD in our game room. They are simply convenient and easy.

just returned an xd as defective,no sound, two calls to india tech reps didn't help..if you choose to order, hope you get a good one

How many of those gajillion channels of cable do you really watch? I watched about six or seven.
With my Roku I can watch what I want when I want to. Set up was a breeze and there's loads of content to choose from.

R.I.P.?

$79.99 no discount when I just checked. Went all the way through the order process to the last step before submitting the order and the discount never appeared.

You have to buy a video on demand for $5 from Amazon to get the deal to work, according to the original post.

I have 2 Roku. A must for any netflix subscriber + YouTube junkie. There are some interesting channels, but worth it alone for this. I was amazed with the setup, so pain free it was silly. Also surprised these are wireless, no need to fish yet another cable around the house. Slap it on a TV, connect to you wireless router and be streaming flix in 7mins.

@joshthegeek

I see the deal listed under the Roku XD player on Amazon so it looks to be good still.

vote-for1vote-against

@y0himba: That's reassuring - I was actually starting to question it...with Boxee, GTV, AppleTV and all of those other media-boxes, I was starting to wonder... but that's cool to hear you like 'em so much

Plus, after I got to looking...for $59 bucks flat, I noticed there wasn't anything that even touched the Roku (even at the standard pricep) so that made me feel better about buyin' it..

[If anybody knows of any [good] media boxes in the sub $90 range, I wouldn't mind hearin' about 'em]

vote-for1vote-against

@joshthegeek: Yeah, the deal is still alive...

If you click on the link, you'll see a huge banner at the bottom part of your screen that says "$20...Special Offer" in huge letters

It gives you details on how to get it exactly, but honestly, there's really only 1 step.

1. Spend $5 or more on Amazon Video on Demand
1.5. Get the discount

vote-for1vote-against

Will the roku player send any content to the tv, as in vids & music off your hard drive, or is it just for streaming web-based content like netflix & youtube?

vote-for1vote-against

Just gotta say thanks to the ops/mods...you guys work with the quickness lol...

There was some engrish-as-a-fourth language spam on here...then like 2 minutes later it was gone...without leaving a trace.

They're like Navy Seals...

Don't normally notice it 'cause I don't post much anymore...but you guys are fast...

Now I sleep.

Question to all you who took advantage of this deal. Do you have to have a single purchase that totals more than $5, or can you rent several movies that add up to over $5? Most movie rentals are $3.99, so it looks like you might have to BUY something greater than $5...not just rent.

vote-for1vote-against

FFFFFFFFF

Been watching for something like this for like a month now. And then this morning I go and pay full price at the best buy.

:(

I used this deal last night. I also want to confirm that if you have VOD credits in your account, you can use them for the purchase of your VOD movie and you will still earn the $20 credit towards the ROKU. It took about an hour after purchasing my movie for the email to notify me that the credit was in my account, but I'm betting that the credit would be almost immediately available if you tried to check out with the Roku--just check the discounts column before finishing your purchase.

I also had a $30 gift balance, so I only paid around $30 total. Great deal. I've bought two of these now for Xmas presents (I have a Logitech Revue w/ Google TV but the people I'm buying for aren't that kind of power user). I think these will be perfect for parents, etc.

vote-for1vote-against

still working and you can rent the movie now or beteween the dates mentioned which stretches into janurary and do it... i got both now and my buddy decided to wait on getting the box but rented the movie so the code was in his account in case they shortened the deal

On the Roku site you can get a $20 off coupon code for a Roku by signing up for a 30 day trial of Netflix. Click on the Roku coupons at the bottom right corner of the page. Then it would be a brand new Roku HD for $59.99 with free shipping.

vote-for1vote-against

@cgilder: The only people who qualify for that are people with households who have NEVER tried Netflix or had a membership with Netflix...that means if anybody in your house has ever had even a 30-day trial - it's void...

And the shipping is $10 bucks...it's only free for the next 2 days...

It also can't be a gift membership...I've been sifting thru Roku deals for days...this one just seemed like too much of a pain - plus I figured most Wooters already had a Nutflex membership at some point...

A couple days ago it was $49 for the Roku XD for new NF members..

vote-for1vote-against

Nooooooooooooooo! I just ordered mine night before last for full price! Life hates me!

vote-for1vote-against

@jason91887: Maybe it hasn't shipped yet? Same thing goes for you...cancel the order on that summabitch :D

vote-for0vote-against

Got one. First, rented "Super, Girls!" for $5. Got my email confirmation right after my purchase confirmation email. Added the Roku XD to my cart, went to checkout, and had the $20 credit. Already have Prime so my total was $59.99. Sweet. Only wish I could get this deal again.

vote-for1vote-against

@thunderthighs: haha...I dunno how I missed your comment man...you pewed the hell outta that guy though

vote-for1vote-against

@jason91887: Never pay full price for ANYTHING. You can always sqeeze a deal.

vote-for1vote-against

@yOhimba: I don't get the difference between the XDS and the XD. I called and spoke with someone in India, but he couldn't really explain the difference. He did, however, hound me for an email address so he could send me a survey.

What do you do with the XDS that you can't do with the XD?

vote-for1vote-against

@cubillion:

Dual-band wireless technology -- the latest standard
Component video* and optical audio outputs
USB port for playing photos, music, and videos

Roku makes a great device. I have the original 720 roku box. It has been flawless. Getting XDS today. :)

vote-for2vote-against

@cubillion:

1. The XDS supports USB devices (Flash drives, external hard drives...any USB storage)...so you can play videos, pictures, music, etc. on the XDS.

2. The XDS supports component video AND optical audio
outputs.

3. The XDS also supports Dual-band Wireless N — "the latest standard"
(They have a chart on the Roku.com website... Comparison chart: http://shop.roku.com/Roku-Streaming-Player-Options-W5.aspx)

@y0himba: You 0wned me on the info lol...I didn't see that you already replied heh, my bad. Took too long to type, to just delete it though :D

vote-for1vote-against

@drchops: It's all good, the more info and replies, the better. These little boxes are more than worth it. Gotta get the word out!

vote-for2vote-against

This is looking good. Anyone have any recommendations for $5+ Amazon VOD rentals or purchases? I'd like to stay closer to $5 than to $10 if possible :)

vote-for1vote-against

http://tinyurl.com/5bonesand4stars

Help narrow the search a little :D...that's just a quick link to movies that are $5-6 bucks and 4+ stars...

I had trouble deciding...mine was a gift, but I think I got like The Dirty Dozen or something heh...Inception was swweeeet, if you haven't seen that, it's worth the $10 bucks to own...
