This isn't a deal, it's a mistake. PlatinumTel uses the Sprint network only, so lets discuss that.

If you open a new line of service with Sprint, you get this phone FREE ordering online. So that's $300 immediate savings.

Before proceeding, lets outline the significant differences in service coverage you'll receive between Sprint and PlatinumTell:

-At Sprint, you'll receive UNLIMITED 3G. Sprint, unlike most major carriers, has no data cap for use on phones. At Platinumtel, Android plans are capped at either 200MB or 1GB depending on rate plan.

-At Sprint, you can roam OFF NETWORK for free. Meaning, you can roam on Verizon's network when Sprint service isn't available. Free. At PlatinumTel, you cannot roam off Sprint's network at all. They say, "Free on-network roaming", but this is deceptive marketing. All PlatinumTel airtime is technically roaming on Sprint's network. So they word it like you're getting roaming. Falsehood. In reality you'll have no roaming whatsoever, free or otherwise.

Now lets compare Sprint's plans with PlatinumTel's Adroid Plans:

-Sprint's EPRP Simply Everything: $100 per month -VS- PlatinumTel's $75 Unlimited plan

You spend EXACTLY the same amount for one year of service. The $300 immediate phone investment you don't pay with Sprint makes the plans a financial wash. After one year, you've spent the same even at the higher plan cost. Financial wash yes, service wash no. During that year, you'll receive the perks of being a Sprint Everything customer. A brief summary of services I find worthwhile are Sprint Navigation, Radio, UNLIMITED 3G, TV, Video messaging, OFF-NETWORK roaming, Sprint Premier upgrade pricing. Full service listings can be found on Sprint's website linked below.

-Sprint's EPRP Simply Everything: $100 per month -VS- PlatinumTel's $60 Unlimited plan

You will spend $180 LESS on PlatinumTel. Looks like a savings, bu you'll receive a lot less from PlatinumTel. This plan limits you to 200MB data. On a modern android phone, you can consider this nonexistent. It'll be enough to cover you for the times you accidentally connect to internet services, but not enough to fully utilize those services. In addition, you'll lose the services previously mentioned available from Sprint. PlatinumTel will also charge you 10 cents per picture message. In summary, this plan is not unlimited. They are far past deceptive marketing and just plain lying now.

-Sprint's EPRP Everything Plus Data: $60 per month -VS- PlatinumTel's $60 Unlimited plan

You'll spend $300 LESS on Sprint's network. You'll only get 500 monthly from Sprint, but with 'Any Mobile, Anytime' and free nights and weekend, many people won't need more. If you are one of those people, you spend less, while getting all the Sprint services previously mentioned.

-Phone upgrades:

Sprint Premier upgrades provides you new customer pricing on phone upgrades once per year. PlatinumTel offers you NO DISCOUNT whatsoever.

My recommendation: Get Sprint's EPRP Everything Plus Data plan. Save money and get a more useful "unlimited", while saving $300 this year, and $150 every future year for phone upgrades.

To sign up for Sprint's EPRP, go to Sprint.com/SERO . For email address and Employee number enter Russ.S.McGuire@Sprint.com and employee number of 383. Don't worry, you aren't violating any rules by doing so. This information was provided by a Sprint exec to draw interest to these plans. Sprint lets ANYONE sign up with this information. It's like asking CVS or Stop&Shop to "run the stores savings card" at checkout if you don't have yours. They are happy to give you the discount using this information.

While you are absolutely right that there are some real advantages for choosing this same device on Sprint, there are also some real advantages of choosing it on PlatinumTel. For example, PlatinumTel does not require a contract of credit check. Also, you have the flexibility of changing your plan every month, should your budget or needs change, all without having to worry about a contract extension. Also, the monthly fee you see is the fee you pay, no additional fees or taxes like you'd usually find on ur Sprint bill.

You're right, its not a deal for everyone, but neither is Sprint's.

Regarding the benefits of roaming with Sprint vs. Platinumtel: I was with Sprint for over 12 years and switched to Platinumtel last month. Roaming coverage with Sprint was always iffy, and on a recent trip to rural Oklahoma, I had coverage just as far out in the boonies with Platinumtel as I ever had with Sprint.
