I ordered this back in December. Dispatching took a little longer, but showed up in reasonable time.

@dustst0rm: Cool, looks like they've reduced the price of the US version again. Still not sure why its still more expensive (and doesn't get the bonus material).

I'm not usually one for the bonus material, but there was a great documentary on one of the disks that followed JK Rowling while she wrote the last book. For that stuff, I'd still recommend the UK version, but if you want it a bit faster, pay the $10 extra and get US version.

These sets (from the UK) are delivered by singing and dancing chimney sweeps. Be sure you tip or they'll say something rude about your knickers

I said this the last time this deal came up, but I figured I'd rehash it again - I ordered this from the co.uk site, and it took OVER A MONTH to get to me in NJ. So, if you don't care about shipping times, feel free, it's a great price.

@tomduff87: its a long swim across the pond!

And beware that while they are "Region-Free", your BluRay player may not be able to play 50Hz encoded materials. Check your player/TV combo to make sure that it would work.

Keep in mind when ordering it will probably take longer than whatever date they expect it to arrive. My original order (shipped on December 2nd) was not received until 7 weeks later. I thought it had gotten lost/stolen. The replacement took a week and a half longer than estimated (3 weeks total).

I bought mine when it was $10 US cheaper, so depending on whether or not you are willing to wait you may want to buy it elsewhere if you live in the United States.

Even though this doesn't come with prime shipping, I'm wondering if my shipment got better treatment because I'm a Prime member...since, like I said, it only took a week to get mine from the release date (I pre-ordered, it shipped Dec 2nd). Sorry to hear folks having shipment problems, but I think most people have ordered these without incident.

Also, again, my LG blu-ray player (bought in November 2011) worked fine with these. But do confirm with yours.

@tomduff87: We ordered 2 sets and then another 2 sets (one like this and one of the special serialized version) from the co.uk site. The first set arrived before December 10th and the second arrived after Christmas. Considering they shipped them on Dec 3rd and the holidays are the busiest time everywhere we were very patient, but it certainly screwed up one of the gifts, and my own copy :)

@meh3884: we're Prime members here in the US and it didn't help at all... it might have been an issue with the special version (awesome presentation by the way)

I hate Harry Potter, but even I'll admit that's an insanely good deal.

vote-for2vote-against

@lskiewalker: Same. Shipping took a while, but I got it for a steal compared to buying it stateside.

I actually just bought one of these yesterday. As long as it plays on the PS3, I'll be happy.

vote-for3vote-against

@squarephreak: It plays on the PS3 just fine. No problems. There's no main title menu, though. The movie just simply starts playing. You'll have to go to the "Feature Menu" while it's playing to get to the extras.

We put the Blu-ray in a regular BR player as well and got the same result - no title menu, just started playing. Not sure if that holds true for both US & UK versions, or just the UK version, but it plays fine other than that.

As far as shipping, I believe mine took just under three weeks. I pre-ordered, it shipped (or rather "dispatched") Dec. 2nd, and I received it on I think it was the 19th. I still think it was well worth the $30+ advantage.

We got in on the preorder deal too. Couldn't be happier. Watched all 8 movies between Christmas and about 2 weeks ago with the kiddo's.

How much is shipping to the US?

vote-for2vote-against

I pre-ordered a set in Nov, it was released Dec 2nd, and it took a couple of weeks or so to get here. I was fine with the shipping speed, hell I would have waited a lot longer for that price.
The set works great on my girlfriends sony blu-ray player.
Also, the first movie is called Philosopher's Stone instead of Sorcerer's Stone, so that's an extra plus as well.

@crusadergurl: Are there previews, or does it go straight into the movie?

vote-for1vote-against

@thomasr: It's included in the price I posted, but I think it was like 3.38GBP, so like $5.25ish.

@brendan948725 The last 3, I think, had previews for me, but not the earlier ones. I'm guessing because when they made these blu rays, the previews would have been so outdated they didn't leave them in.

@crusadergurl: Mine gives me a title menu on both my PS3 and my regular blueray player.

Also, I preordered mine, and got a "dispatched" email a few days before 12/2. It took just over 3 weeks to get to me in Missouri. It arrived Christmas week.

vote-for2vote-against

One heck of a deal! I will see how long it takes from dispatch to receipt. Thanks mate!

@lll0228

50hz only applies to programs filmed in the UK to UK standards, Hollywood movies are shot in 60hz and therefore have no problems on US equipment.

@squarephreak

my set plays fine on the PS3, and you get to hear harry say philosophers stone, instead of the US versions sorcerers stone =p

vote-for1vote-against

I preordered this. It got here the day after it was released (only took 5 days for shipping from the UK to Oregon!) I was really surprised. I've watched every single one of these on my PS3 with no problems at all. Everything plays including the extra feature discs. Do not hesitate to buy if them not playing is a concern for you.

As @bkreft said, they say philosophers stone instead of sorcerers stone like the US version. I actually like the term philosophers stone better, not to mention it's how it was originally written by the author.

vote-for2vote-against

So does anyone know if these are the extended versions of the movies that they show on AMC family channel from time to time? I'd heard you could only get them in the UK version for the time being.

vote-for2vote-against

I want to know how different the "ultimate" collection will be. I don't know if it is standard form, but I had read that an Ultimate collection would be released at some point... But when, for how much, and what bonus materials would be included?

vote-for1vote-against

@dwergmal92: From what I heard, the current US Version box set are movies only. The Ultimate box set they are planning to release will be movies, plus the special features discs that were included in the special edition 2-disc packs of the movies as they were originally released.
