Apple 8GB iPod touch with Retina Display & FaceTime (Current Gen) for $169.99 + $5.00 shipping
You had a good run, Steve. This 4th Gen iPod’s for you. You know, just in case you can’t get them any more.
Now THAT'S a deal!!!
Im checking this deal on my refurb iPod Touch from Woot!
Never a single complaint
Great deal on a great iPod. You can even use it as a free phone in wi-fi areas with the right FREE apps.
Is there going to be a new iPod touch coming out in the near future? I've been wanting to get a new iPod (mines 2nd gen) but i would rather have the newest available.
Again.....This is getting old. Don't call it deals.woot, call it Ipod.woot. If it were $79, I would go for it. Otherwise you can find new ones for under $200 with full warranty. A lot of ipod touch refurbs means something just isn't right with these units. Yes, you can buy an extended warranty, but who want to buy something that may be a nightmare. At least a new one, you walk into apple store and get a new one or they fix it fast.
I've been looking for a new iPod, but for $30 more I'm buying a new one.
I see that Best Buy has these new for 204.99 (plus tax?) someone mentioned these for under 200 new, where? I would like the 32 gig version myself so if anyone can point me to a fantastic sale an either one new I would appreciate it. Some Woot deals are better than others. Check the new price before buying. What features does this have that are not in an Iphone 4?
I am about to get a new smart phone. The email capability of an MP3 player is impressive, or is the lack of a phone what makes it different from an Iphone 4? I truly would like to know. I may want to just make my phone a phone like they used to be and the mp3 player the mp3 player, it sure is nice to have all the storage space and email and wireless printing etc. I hear complaints about battery time is all, they are quite thin, perhaps thats why. A quality product by any measurement for sure though.
@thomasterrible: And the regular Best Buy price is $230.00. That's why I think this is a good deal. Oh, and there are phone apps out, so if you have a wi-fi signal, you can make a phone call. Helps if you tend to rack up cell minutes when you're at home.
I'm tempted to get one of these. I currently have a 3rd gen 32GB iPod Touch, it's filled with games and applications that I hardly use. One of the awesome things about the iOS 5 Upgrades is all the cloud-based updates. Now I can keep all those game apps I never use up in the cloud and only keep the apps I use regularly on the device. 8GB ain't that bad now!
I received two iPodTouch 4Gs from Woot in a recent sale and found that WiFi sensitivity of both was inferior to WiFi sensitivity of my iPodTouch 1G. In side-by-side comparisons, my old iPodTouch 1G could often receive three or four WiFi signals compared to one or no signals for the newer iPodTouch 4Gs. I do not know whether this was an instance of receiving two low sensitivity iPodTouch 4Gs, or whether the newer model is intrinsically less WiFi sensitive than the older model. I repeated this test in various locations with consistent results.
Retina display on an iPod?! IN FOR 2!
@mrsly69: who honestly cares about the warranty? applecare sucks for all we know, if you drop your ipod, it's your fault and they will charge you tons of money to fix it. if you're paranoid you can get squaretrade or something which have accidental damage plans
@joebrooks: you know, you can't really store apps in the cloud it's pretty much only for music and for phone backup(contacts, calendar etc). The apps you've purchased are already in the apple servers and you can download them for free anytime. the latest ios4 updated shows you which apps you have purchased.
Is this refurbished or brand new? And isn't the next generation of iOS devices coming out next month?
@mrsly69: Can you please tell me where I can find a new one for under $200.00
Thank you.
I would opt for the 32GB even if it means adding a little more cash. or wait for the iPod Touch refresh possible this october/november.
I so love my Zune and its software. Zune Marketplace is the best thing that has ever happened to music. No more iPods for me.
Not loving this deal, since I got a NEW 32 gig on eBay for $225 delivered.
Apple offers the iPod 4th gen 8GB for $199 as a refurb. My experience with AppleCare is that when I needed a major repair it really paid off on my laptop. I would much rather deal with them in the event of a problem. In addition, Apple usually (but not always) follows a product release cycle. So I would be reluctant to buy a 1 yr old iPod when there might be a new one right around the corner. Just my 2 cents.
@cgilkes: I bought a refurbed 32GB iPod Touch on Woot! about six months ago - it died within a week.
Called Woot!, they offered a full refund as they had sold out their stock and couldn't swap it, and they suggested taking a shot at seeing if Apple would be able to fix/replace it. Called Apple, item had a valid warranty, they arranged an appointment for me at the local Apple store. Long story short, Apple replaced the item for free.
So, deal with whomever you like, but both Woot! and Apple did right by me.
why would anyone buy a refurb by anyone for 200 bucks when they can get a brand new one under warranty for 204? And that is just at best buy without doing any research? I would be inclined to get the 32 gig just to have the greater storage capacity. But also I am going to get a new smartphone which will even if not an Iphone will have 16gb internal memory as well as 16 gig removable card included. However I may want a separate ipod and phone which would be the reason for getting both. The Zunes are cheaper by far if you just want music but they dont have any of the many features the Ipod does like the video and multiple cameras and the video chat and wi fi and web browsing and wireless printing SOmetimes refurbished is much cheaper and deals are good but in this case I would rather get a new one with full warranty for 30 bucks more or the 32 gig for a bit more than that. As with any deal check out prices on other places to determine how good a deal it is before making a purchase.
A refurb 8gb from Apple is just $199 plus tax with free shipping. These include a new battery, new shell, and a 1 year warranty. The woot "deal" is a used 8gb with a 90 day woot warranty and (as user durkzilla found out) POSSIBLY some remaining Apple factory warranty. These were released about a year ago, so it is possible these could have some factory warranty left.
I have purchased several refurbs direct from Apple and they do look (and mostly work) just like new.
When in stock, Apple sells the 32gb for $259 and the 64gb for $339. Prior gen 64gb are $249.
New 8gb for $205 delivered from Amazon, $205 at Target and WortBuy, etc, etc
$175 for a used touch with 90 day warranty is no deal.
@mrsly69 & @icarususa: Just so you and others know: he 90 day warranty is from WOOT, not Apple. Apple refurb products carry the same one year warranty as a brand new product. If it dies they'll replace it with a BRAND NEW one. Bought a MacBook refurbished & had nothing but trouble out if it for 6 months. They finally shipped me a BRAND NEW MacBook Pro with better specs than I originally bought & paid for.
Their customer service is nothing but above & beyond exceptional.
I got one of these a while ago from woot and the power button no longer works.. it is a common problem with the 4th gen. don't buy the 4th gen unless you have at least a year warranty.
@thomasterrible: English mother @#%$er. Do you speak it.
Sure, this item may be cool.. but hold onto those Woot boxes.
THEY CAN SAVE YOUR LIFE!

@kevskoolkars: I was surprised after warrantying an Ipod that they do not replace the defective unit with a brand new one but they replace with a refurbished unit. They don't really go out of their way to point that out but I would bet the macbook pro they gave you is a refurb as well. Although I wouldn't bet much because I'm just sayin.
@chezteladog: thanks for your concerns but i know what i was given. Sorry you didnt get the same treatment.
On another note my girlfriend dropped her 6 month old iPhone in water the other day. Took it to the Apple store and they replaced it for free as well. :-) LOVE APPLE.
I'd emphasize that these are refurbished units, and NOT refurbished by Apple, but rather a third party. Unlike the Apple refurbs, these only come with a 90 day warranty, so if they die at 5 months, you are SOL.
A bigger issue is that they are not refurbished to factory condition. Many of the previous units sold by Woot had significant mars, scratches, and other cosmetic imperfections (check the comment threads). Apple units do not. Also, they may not come with the same accessories that the new or Apple refurbs have.
I don't think any of these are deal breakers, but are just things to consider. You can get a square trade warranty to make it like the Apple unit, but then the price will be similar. Look at getting a refurb unit from Apple before you buy, though.
That is a good point. If a product comes on Woot which is refurbished with only a 90 day warranty it needs to be MUCH cheaper than a new or factory refurbished unit to make it appealing to me. This does happen. Also as information on Woot suggests, the part about trying to go to the manufacturer first even though the warranty through Woot is in effect because one may get better service, perhaps even a new unit as replacement or even an upgraded model if the one purchased on Woot is outdated. In THIS case though, why not pay 25 bucks more for a brand new one?
