TIM for cheap. $1/gram.

MX-2 makes a decent alternative to Arctic Silver 5. It doesn't require curing and is non-conductive.

Thermal paste/compound is used to facilitate more efficient heat transfer between a CPU and it's heatsink/fan within a computer. Higher quality thermal paste generally equates to lower CPU temperatures, which can help extend the life of your computer, or is used in overclocking situations.
