We’re not saying it’s a mystic portal to another dimension. But we’re also not saying it’s not.
Hello everyone! Here to answer any questions for the next half hour. Happy Wooting
@acerebay: now that kind of proactive community attention i can appreciate...regardless of how much i don't appreciate this "community"
acerbay was strangely silent last time when somebody found a better deal in his own store and questioned it...oh well...glad you're looking on at least.
I want to say I got my Acer refurbished A500 32GB from Acer on eBay and have been very pleased.
It upgrades to Ice Cream and is in all ways a current Android Tablet.
It's built well and there are some optional odds and ends available for them such as cases, etc.
The things that I didn't and/or don't like:
The shipping was fast but the box it shipped in was kind of sparce with no manuals, etc.
I order the Acer Black Sleeve for my A500. And though I used it for a while and it protects the A500 good, well, it's boring. I rapidly replaced it with something a little slicker.
It doesn't charge via USB.
The charging cable it came with is like a 2 footer. What was Acer thinking of? It won't even reach from the floor up to my nightstand.
Having to deal with ebay = automatic thumbs down.
Thank you all for the comments so far. If anyone has any questions on the items, I will be back on in a few hours to answer.
Don't waste your time or money. Google tab is coming out soon, and will price at 150 - 200 dollars with comparable specs or better. Googles looking to compete with kindle fire and new ipad by doing a hp.
Not saying this isn't a good tablet. It's only running a tegra 2 processor, but so is my Motorola Xoom and I am overly satisfied with mine. To be up to date and run EVERYTHING, you would want a tegra 3 at least. Tegra 3+ is coming out soon though and tegra 4 to follow shortly. Google tab specs have not been anounced, but rumored to be tegra 3 or higher. If it sells for 150 it will be a 7 inch tab, but if it sells for 200 it will be a 10 inch tab. Most likely a nexus tab made by asus.
Are these a good brand?
Looks like some vital specs are missing from some of these eBay descriptions, like whether the screens are resistive or capacitive. Resistive is a deal-breaker for me.
@darkblood251: Where are you getting this from? I'd only heard the 200 figure for the 7 inch, I don't think it's feasible for a 200 dollar good quality 10 inch, especially if it's Tegra3 or higher. If it is, I'm selling my Transformer that day. I really want a source.
@darkblood251: The Google tablet remains rumor. Last details I heard concerning it and Tegra 3 were that it was moving to OMAP or Qualcomm in order to keep the cost down. Official word, if it comes, is expected next month at Google I/O.
@robio: All of the Iconia tablets (and any tab with Honeycomb or ICS) have capacitive multitouch displays.
I own an Acer A100 and right now I use it primarily to read books, email, watch video, and play games on the go. It has been very helpful with a 3 year old in a restaurant who needed to be kept busy. The larger tablets didn't really work for me as a device I could tote around easy. I found a cover and case. It upgraded to ICS a little while back and its been even better. I tossed around the idea of a nook or fire but this exceeds both as I can read literally anything with a simple book reading program installed.
ATTENTION Skype Users...
I bought an A500 refurb (through Secondipity) back in October. LIke it a lot. The only thing I had issues with was the Microphone. It seemed to work ~ok with the Recorder App, but Horrible with Skype (think choppy/mechanical cell call at a VERY low level). I did however remove the back panel and remove the REAR facing mic, which is used for noise cancellation. I believe there is some sort of software issue with the cancellation design/process and removing it made the mic 1000x better.
Any of these have IPS screens?
@kjrehberg: No, these tablets don't have IPS screens.
I have an Acer A500 and I love it for reading books, checking email, and playing games.
I have had the A500 for about 9 months now and really like it.
I watch netflix on it, read pdf's and store and bring up some excel docs.
The usb port is a nice feature as it makes it easy to transfer files while on the go, or when traveling to charge my phone.
Biggest downside is that I wish the charger cable was longer.
I have my 32gb a500, love it. Currently have a 32gb micro sd in there, and a 64gb micro is in the mail to test out w/ this tab and my phone.
Wifi could be stronger, but still works well everywhere I go.
Otherwise love it, I snagged the 10" since I have a 4.5" phone and the 7" would be just a tad too similar.
I've recently found it has trouble rendering huge files, but this could be the case for any tablet. (folders w/ 2000+ 16mp pictures, or 6.8mb excel worksheets with a ton of formulas)
Hows the battery life on the A100?
I got an a500 last week from secondipity for $230. It just arrived yesterday and I absolutely love it. Upgraded to ICS with no problems at all, and it runs smoother than honeycomb did. Battery life is good. The power chord is way too short, and the screen is a little susceptible to glare (and very susceptible to fingerprints) but I imagine a decent screen protector would take care of that without much trouble. Also, the wifi range leaves a little to be desired. All around, though, at this price I highly recommend, from the 24 hours I've had with mine so far.
@acerebay: should toss up some OEM a500 power supplies...
I've bought from this seller before and the whole process was nice. I never needed to communicate with them but they were happy to help others here. It was also nice packaging for the netbook I purchased.
To save folks some time on this deal:
$169 is for the A100 7" Tablet
$229 gets you the A200
$239 and you get the A500 (front rear camera's all the bells whistles and stuff)
When I first saw it, I thought - wow! $169 for a refurb A500.. woohoo… $239 is decent for a Tegra2 nonetheless.
@acerebay: Are there specific ones that have HDMI or micro HDMI? and it appears that we can update all to Ice Cream?
Just ordered and If you add the $10 case they give you $15 off the tablet!
