Will add my comments/review from yesterday:
This is not a competitor to a traditional regular sized monitor. It's for an already cluttered desk, for portability, and for systems that are already maxxed out on monitors.
I have a 7" Doublesight at the office, to accompany my two 17" Dell LCDs. I bought it because I thought it may be useful for tossing an excel file or a PDF on from time to time when the two screens were not enough. Yeah, too small. Not really size wise, but resolution wise. All our apps have about 400,000 miles of toolbars, so the usable area was minimal, if there at all. So after that, I thought maybe I could keep my Outlook on the little screen - also no dice, because I use Xobni (www.xobni.com, amazing tool), so again, too much real estate taken up by toolbars and side bars.
So now, the Doublesight serves as two things: Primarily, it keeps my AIM instant message window. Useful, because I communicate with my co-workers via AIM frequently. Also, for Hulu/Youtube when I am less than productive.
This DoubleSight has a higher resolution than mine (1024x600 vs 800x480), so it may be more useful for actual work than for AIM. 1024x600 is netbook resolution, right? At least the smaller ones?
Additionally, these can be used in portrait or landscape.
The software is OK, not a memory/processor hog but it definitely has a footprint. It runs pretty well, sometimes it'll drop some frames if I'm using it for full screen video. Not sure if that's simply because it's USB (though I'd think 480 mbps should be plenty, but who knows) or because the computer isn't the fastest/newest (2gb DDR, Core 2 Duo from a few years ago, sorry I can't be more specific).
For $100, if you have a reason to have a small screen and not a full sized monitor, this is a good buy, and I would recommend.
Stupid 1k character limits :( - Sorry for the triple post.
No apologies necessary. Thanks for the information. :)
And to reiterate what I said in the old thread, the coupon also works on the DS-90UC which is the model with a built in webcam, I think it's otherwise identical, price is higher, but in case that functionality is useful to you the coupon knocks $50 off.
I ordered the webcam-less model on Tuesday, and had a tracking number already on Wednesday.. Pleased so far. If you have a use for this type of small portable USB monitor, I think this one might be the best available on the market, and with shipped price at about $116 I could find no others selling near that price. They're $130 minimal on ebay.
oh BTW this deal will be live until 3/14.... so those who will get theirs soon enough (me included) should stop back by and post your own reviews on this item too.
i am super excited to get mine. :)
I'm in for one! Thanks!! Will make a great addition to my 24" Monitor. Since I only need space for gadgets and such. Don't want to power a larger screen than I need for it.
THANKS!!
@joemcse: Received mine today. Look good. Not a very wide viewing angle. It does work with just using 1 USB port (although it has 2 on PC side). Can't play videos on it. But pretty sweet little side monitor for tools. Also can rotate montior for Portrait view.
