Who remembers Lego sets that were made out of hundreds of bricks instead of 10 custom pieces and a few bricks?

@sizzlestick: My son received a few sets for Christmas. I was expecting to be disappointed with The Black Pearl, but it was built with a surprising number of "normal" bricks.

Seems like a good deal at first glance, but shipping kills it for the few things I was interested in. Found those for cheaper on Amazon.

And lego of my day was just bricks and imagination. They stopped doing that after seeing the effect on the fools of my generation who became engineers. The new stuff is for budding bankers and such.
Who remembers when they made Lego sets that weren't based off a movie? Although, whenever they decide to make a Serenity model, I'm on it.

Awesome price for Skeleton Bowling, though. Everywhere else it's 40 bucks. Too bad it's out of stock until Jan 16 -- that's way too long for a little boy to wait. ;)
Why for the love of bricks did they decide to permanently bond the Minifigs to the Lego brick base.
It's sacrilege. Like me supergluing a lego set together.
