dealsinconceivable! a cool princess bride shirt today…

I wanted to like this, but If I saw it on someone I would not guess it was supposed to be from the Princess Bride. The art's nice, but you've got to kind of know what you are looking at to recognize Westley's outfit.

@moondrake: I disagree. I totally know it's Princess Bride. This is way better than a generic movie still plastered on to a shirt. Do you wear shirts for other people, or for yourself? Nice concept art.

@cac53: Wearing a t-shirt with an inside joke or story that only a few like-minded people will "get" is fun. Wearing a t-shirt with an inside joke or story that no one will get is like wearing a blank t-shirt. You can tell jokes and stories to yourself without cues, it's sharing the joke or story with others that requires the cues. If the image doesn't adequately convey the joke or story then it isn't doing its job. You believe this image does that. I believe that it does not. If I saw this shirt on someone, despite being like-minded (a fan of the movie), I would be unlikely to "get it".

I'm not suggesting that a movie still would be better, but something more emblematic of the film would be. The shirts with the "Hello my name is"(label) "Inigo Montoya, you killed my father prepare to die" don't have a photo, but fans of The Princess Bride still immediately "get it". Also I'm not exactly sure what a "generic" movie still might be. Perhaps a still from Movie: The Movie?

I'm not sure if I like it.

I think I have to agree with moondrake. This only has part of the title, two of the characters, and several references to the film. What is this, a Star Wars shirt or something?

What's worse, if someone doesn't get the reference, they may think you're labeling yourself as a bride. Although, if you're actually going to be a bride, it wouldn't be a bad way to spread the news. It could also be a tool for warding off suitors, whether it's true or not.

I do not think it means what you think it means.

@moondrake: I think you're underestimating how many people have seen this movie. It's more than a cult classic, and defines ones age and generation. Tons of people will relate and appreciate the image on this shirt, especially those from that generation. No need to put a movie quote or something obvious on a shirt. No need to spoon feed the viewer.

I find it really hard to believe that someone who has seen this movie more than once would not relate this image to Princess Bride. It's totally obvious.
