There's gotta be some wooters out there that have used this. How good is it? Can it warn you if someone's snooping your data at Starbucks or something like that?
@rayray8822: Maybe, depending on how they're connecting to you.
I only got to play with the app for a couple of minutes when my ex-wife dropped by this morning. I'm not familiar with the iPhoneOS, and i got out of professional IT networking more than a decade ago.
I can say that it does with the touch of the screen, a lot of things I used to do from within UNIX shell CLI.
I learned more about my home WiFi net in 30 seconds with this app than I had learned about it in 8yrs.
It's nifty, and likely far more powerful than what I could figure out in a few minutes using a new app running on an unfamiliar OS, standing outside in the bright sunlight.
@rayray8822: Well you have to realize, wifi snooping is really just capturing radio broadcasts. This will tell you how many and what type of wireless devices are connected to a network, but anyone not interacting with the network can still listen to everything being sent back and forth and capture it.
but as a listening computer will not broadcast its presence, you cant tell if someone is recording your packets any more then the radio stations know how many listeners are recording the song that's playing right now.
@lexian: So, what's keeping folks from stealing your data at Starbucks, then?
@rayray8822: That is why you shouldn't do anything personal at Starbucks.
If you absolutely have to there are ways to do it, but it requires a VPN type setup, which for just a normal user, are fairly hard to manage, and setup.
back up to $4 :(
