This isn't a deal with toner being so costly. The manual can be downloaded and the power cord is the standard computer chord, but the unit should have come with a toner cartridge for display. I got a similar model a year ago from Staples with toner for $15. Not that the deal I got will ever be found again, just that even it came with toner.

dead already they must have only had 1 at that price

@thepenrod: A high yield toner cartridge (TN450) can be purchased for this printer for $12 with free shipping. That is 2600 pages in comparison to the 1200 page cartridge that originally came with the printer.

@zapp brannigan: The deal is not dead. Due to Amazon listing policies, any open box items must be listed under Used - Like new. Since this is an open box item and is missing the toner, manual, and power cord, it can be found there.

I have a used HP 1020 with a power cord and a half used toner for $50... what the hell, how is this a deal? Staples is selling brand new Canon D420 Copier, Scanner, Printers for $70.

$17 shipping too!

@midmichcomp: $12? For refurbed toner cartridge. So a display model can be had for $72 (plus cord if you have to buy one) and a refurbed toner cartridge. This still isn't a good deal.

@midmichcomp: Why do all of your display/used printers not come with toner?

vote-for0vote-against

@thepenrod: at $72 with shipping and a high yield toner cartridge it is still $10 lower than any other Amazon seller. It may not be a jaw dropping deal, but considering this printer sells for $120 + tax at OfficeMax, OfficeDepot, etc, $72 is a pretty decent deal.

@thepenrod: The ink/toner cartridges for the display printers sometimes get misplaced/stolen while the unit is on display. The ink/toner cartridges for the used printers are usually either empty or expired and are recycled before the printer is sold.

@midmichcomp: Then maybe you should have listed that in your listing discription. Not trying to be a hard ass but if I can't find it on the link provided kind of makes it seem dead.

@thepenrod: I have the model right beneath this one (HL-2220) and I can tell you that you can easily find a new TN-450 cartridge for $15. Just installed one yesterday, in fact. Anyways, the "refurb" cartridges are just refilled with toner. When you "recycle" a toner cartridge, that's what they do with them. If you want a new one, it's $3 more.

You can get this same printer @ staples for 49.99, with the toner and power cord. That price includes a $20 rebate, which you can fill out immediately online in 2 minutes.

Wow what a crock.

Used printer....lame, 16.99 shipping lame

Brand new printer 70.93, shipping 16.99. Neither of these are deals.
Quit trying to shove your crappy printer down our throats.

I love this line of Brother printers. Great performers and I don't have to think about them. The toner lasts and the printer works consistently. I've bought 3 now (for different reasons at different times). But I would not buy this one at this price. I got each of mine on Black Friday in 3 different years and this model, new, can be had for $50 and the model with wireless can be had for $70 (and that was a weekend price, not a 'be there at 5am' price). Excellent printer!

@jordy777: Could you please provide the link to Canon D420 at Staples? I couldn't find it.

Not a deal at this price - not when new ones are so frequently on sale.

I've had three printers from this line and they have all worked like champs. The only laughable issue is that a new OEM fuser runs about $150. The fuser is exactly the same across the entire line from the $50 sale printer to the $300+ multifunction machines, so I just pick up the cheapest model which goes on sale at Staples every month or two for $60. I use the starter cartridge and the fuser from the cheap model in one of my more expensive printers. Done this only once so far, will likely pickup one more cheap HL-2240 at some point just in case Brother discontinues the line and moves to a new cartridge/fuser setup.

Brother OEM high capacity toners are around $45 on Amazon. I've been buying refill toner (do it yourself). Each cartridge seems to refill about 3-4 times before the quality goes noticeably downhill. Its also possible to convert a starter cartridge to full with a converter kit. Have fun!
