good deal in for one. Can anyone give me a heads up on the data transfer? Anything particular as a watch out?

vote-for1vote-against

It's an awesome deal and I'd recommend it to anyone who doesn't have a 360 s. If you have the new slim it won't work.

vote-for3vote-against

I realize that most people will know this, but just in case...This hard drive is for the previous version of the Xbox 360 (white). If you have the newest version of the 4GB Xbox (which will be matte black) this hard drive will not fit.

vote-for1vote-against

@peaty haha. That is my hope as well. I did find one other difference between the two models. One of them comes with a 12 month warranty and the other comes with a 3 month warranty.

Just to baffle and confuse even more, the one with the 12 month warranty is the cheaper ($69) one. Confusing.

@myersnj7: you can take the hard drive out and put in the slim case . the case can found at http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.48653 for $8.91 free ship ... i have done this my self

vote-for1vote-against

@myersnj7 I think you are referring to the Xbox 360 S or Slim. It is not matte black, it is more of a gloss black. Only reason I bring this up is that the older style Xbox was/is available in black. It is referred to as the Xbox 360 Elite and this particular hard drive should be compatible with the Elites. Also an FYI, heard from a friend who received the Xbox 360 S with the 4gb hard drive that he bought one of these 250gb hard drives and was able to gut it and use the hard drive in his new machine (probably voids warranties so proceed with caution.

just saw @bobert414 response with link, sorry for duplicate info.

For those with the new model xbox (slim), this drive will not fit as is, but with a torx driver you can remove the bare drive and install it in the expansion slot of the xbox slim. obviously this will void warranty but works great

X16-38655-01 is the same European model that Woot had for 50 bucks a few days ago. It'll work just as well as the other model.

vote-for2vote-against

Interesting note if you ordered it...

"This item cannot be returned through our website. Please contact Customer Service."

vote-for2vote-against

this will work fine on the new 360S, and NO, it does not void your warranty.

just check out youtube for vids on how to install this on the new 360 slim. It's a real microsoft product, so it will not get you into trouble on xbox live, and since you don't break any seals on your 360 slim to install it, no problems with the warranty on your slim.

vote-for3vote-against

@kamikazeken: I think they may have been referring to the hard drives warranty.

vote-for1vote-against

So I did some research and found out that this is the European Version.

Whats the diffrence between the European version (X16-38655-01) and the US Version (HPF-00001 | SKU: 9874392)?

vote-for5vote-against

@kaywootwoot: European version has a crappy attitude and thinks it's better then the US version.

vote-for1vote-against

@dbwoods1: I got a 4GB S for Christmas and it's matte black...

vote-for2vote-against

@dbwoods1 @wootrix:
To make it clear to people: doing so will void the warranty of the HARD DRIVE, NOT the xbox itself.

vote-for2vote-against

looking on google images, the 360S comes in both matte black and gloss black. Possibly the matte is European and the gloss is U.S.? But to tell the difference from the Xbox Elite, its much much smaller.

vote-for1vote-against

This HDD will only work with Non-Slim models, that is the ones that the HDD mounts on the exterior of the 360. If you have the new 360S Slim Model (smaller, silver power button, makes a beep when you switch your game disks, built in wireless) this will not work without hacking the drive out its current carrier and placing it into the correct one, which you can buy at a link somewhere in these comments.

The slims come in the Matte and Glossy black. From what I've heard the systems that come with the 250GB HDD are glossy, the ones with the 4GB memory unit only are Matte.

I have the worst luck. I missed the woot deal a few days ago but have been looking for a deal on one of these for a while. Then someone posts a link and I jump on it, but it turns out to be the non-legit drives, even though the pictures they showed had the Microsoft decals on them.

Now I see the legit kind, but if I go with it, between the two drives, I could have just went out and bought one of the damn things for the regular price off the shelf.

vote-for1vote-against

I picked one of these up from the first Woot! deal.

The transfer is painless, but your installed games do not transfer. You will have to reload them off the disk again.

You can use these in the 360 S if you remove the HD from it from it's shell and connect it inside the new system, but there is no support for the drive. It just kind of hangs in the sata connection. (Not recommended)

@wickedd36 and Dymtryv

"...X16-38655-01 is the same European model that Woot had for 50 bucks a few days ago. It'll work just as well as the other model..."

I got 2 on the deal ($55 shipped). Got them yesterday and switched one of my old 20gig XBOX's over in about 10 minutes...very painless, very easy.

And yes, you CAN use this (with a little screwdriver work) with the new XBOX's

vote-for1vote-against

Just ordered one for my Jasper 360. I live in Texas so with tax was about $75 shipped. I will sell off my 60 GB drive for $60 on craigslist; making this a $15 upgrade.

vote-for1vote-against

Just as an FYI, I got the new XBox 360 Slim, glossy black, and xfered all of my games, music and movies over to the new 250GB slim HDD. I had to buy the transfer cable alone and that was $20.00 plus tax and not the cheap 3rd party version from an overseas ebay seller. It's better to buy a Microsoft branded one and your XBox will recognize it quickly when you plug it in.
So if think about it, this 250GB HDD is really $49.99 but the $20.00 transfer cable. WOW...that is a good deal.

vote-for1vote-against

Not as good a deal as the Woot one because I think this is a Refurb. Still ordered one though.

vote-for1vote-against

@cavdov1cd: Yes it will, you just have to take it out of the case. I put it in my S in about 5 minutes...

vote-for1vote-against

@timbermar: Why are all of you so technically illiterate? This will work in a Slim you just have to take it out of that casing, it took me all of 5 minutes...

vote-for2vote-against

@journeyloaded: It's alright. He doesn't know what he's talking about. There "Arcade" Slim (4GB), as many people are calling it, is matte black. The 250GB Slim is glossy black. Gets fingerprints like a bitch.

vote-for1vote-against

Missed this on Woot!. In for one now.

vote-for1vote-against

Also, I don't know why this deal is dead. It's still live for me.

vote-for2vote-against

@mesostinky: If it were a refurb it would have (Refurbished) in the title. Apparently this is just the European version of the drive (I hope I can read the manual.. I keep seeing this word.. colour, but I have no idea what it is supposed to mean!)

vote-for1vote-against

Like slytke said, it takes 5 minutes to get the bare drive out of the case. You'll need a Torx 6 and a Torx 10 screwdriver or bit to remove the 8 screws. One of the first 4 screws is under the shiny MS sticker, and breaking that sticker voids your warranty for the drive only. Then you just disconnect the single connector and slide the drive out.
You should transfer your information from the old drive first, using the transfer cable.

vote-for1vote-against

If it's a standard sata plug it may pay to plug it into another machine to make sure it's alive before you hack at it and void the warranty.

vote-for1vote-against

@garyoa1: It's standard SATA, data and power both.

vote-for2vote-against

@dpb39: if they showed the microsoft decal, but the one you got was "fake", you didn't get what you paid for, and should return and dispute the credit card charges. No brainer....

vote-for1vote-against

Missed the awesome deal @ $55... Oh well. $20 more. Def worth it. In for one!

vote-for1vote-against

Awesome. It is still available and shipping is free. It was ships within 24 hours now it ships within 7 to 14 days. Estimated delivery date: February 03. Oh well worth the wait.

vote-for1vote-against

Just bought one today at Best Buy for 119.99 plus tax (same sku and everything) I wonder if I could buy this and return it to Best Buy to recover my losses...

vote-for1vote-against

@slytke: I'm not technically illiterate, but your apparently illiterate in the whole sense. Allow me to quote myself,

"If you have the new 360S Slim Model (smaller, silver power button, makes a beep when you switch your game disks, built in wireless) this will not work without hacking the drive out its current carrier and placing it into the correct one, which you can buy at a link somewhere in these comments."

Looks like I covered that there buddy, thanks for playing.

vote-for1vote-against

Does the 4gb slim already have a caddy for the hd I can use or must I also purchase the one here on this page?

vote-for1vote-against

got mine on Monday and installed it no problems (old school X-box 360). The only thing that temporarily freaked me out is the install stopped half way though, I wasn't sure why (the screen dimmed) but when I moved the joystick on the controller it was just asking if I wanted to overwrite an app that was apparently already on the new HD. I said yes and it went on it's merry way. I went from a 60GB to the new 250. I'm guessing the old drive can be used with the transfer kit on a unit that wants to upgrade?
