cool but still more expensive than 2tb hd's out there albeit 4 of these 7200rpms drives would make a nice raid 0.
Ehh, four "factory recertified" hard drives in a striped RAID 0 set seems like asking for trouble.
@trevorsg: So get four and do RAID 10 (or, for you storage purists out there, RAID 0 + 1). IMHO, Raid-0 is ALWAYS asking for trouble.
I have a 500 GB refurb Seagate (7200.10) from a long ago Woot-Off that has yet to fail me.
They're Seagates. They're junk. Why do you think there are so many Seagate refurbs for sale?
they re-FURRED them. They are better on the outside now.
@durkzilla: Ditto on the RAID 0 comment. RAID 0 seems like an oxymoron to me: there's no redundancy. And RAID 1 is barely better: if you're going to halve your storage capacity, you're better off doing continuous backups.
isn't geeks.com the website that always gets their customers identity stolen? I think they constantly get hacked and their customer information gets stolen. I wouldn't shop there.
Refurb HDs are for suckers
So you need to buy four in order to get free shipping. Nah.
@polie: $35 is more expensive than a 2tb drive? Link please, I need to buy a big hard drive soon.
i have a stack of dead seagate drives right now never again
The .11 firmware is garbage that is why there are so many of these drives...not worth the trouble!
@kirika: Probably meant per megabyte. Theres quite a few 2tb drives going for around 90-100$ which is 4.5-5 cents per mb vs this which would be 7 cents with shipping.
Unless I'm running RAID I try to stick to the 500mb-1TB drives just in case they fail - I'm not losing 2TB worth of data.
