RE: Games For Windows

Screw that. I don't want to have to connect to the internet just to be able to save my game.(which is how Games For Windows games handle game saves.)

vote-for1vote-against

@entity325: That does suck if you don't have broadband.

vote-for4vote-against

@entity325 Did you just say "I don't want to have to connect to the internet?" This is 2010, WTH are you using, dial-up? Good grief.

vote-for1vote-against

I keep on getting this need to enable cookies error. I don't see where I can do this in IE or Firefox. Never had this problem with any other side.

vote-for1vote-against

I went under the main site. Is this a dead deal now?

vote-for1vote-against

@desimo: Some people do not have broadband in 2010. That may be hard for many to imagine, but I had to rig up an aircard to a router in order to get "high-speed," which only equates to ~200kbps down and ~80kbps down, which is better than the ~2kbps dial-up we had for over 6 years. No cable, no DSL, and certainly no FiOS for us.

vote-for1vote-against

@auctionsaver: I also get the cookie error page, from all my browsers (and cookies are not disabled)

vote-for2vote-against

@desimo: I'm thinking he just means what every one else thinks also, these types of services are a joke, no one likes DRM and now it is done this way, have to have the internet to play single player games is stupid.

I for one would rather go out and buy the game in a store or steam and not worry about this service disappearing or going down so I can't play the game. 1.99 is nice for a rental though, but I would never feel like I own the game and find it hard to believe anyone else would think they do with this service.

vote-for1vote-against

Hey for 2 bucks I'll give it a shot. Great find!

vote-for2vote-against

I had the same cookies problem. Just go to the homepage and then search for BioShock. It's still $1.99 Downloading mine now, good find!

vote-for1vote-against

Got to it from the Games For Windows home page. $2.07 with tax!

vote-for1vote-against

lol, whoever posted this linked directly to the "No-cookies" error for some reason. The real link is http://www.gamesforwindows.com/en-US/dailydeal/ (This will go to the day's deal, so tomorrow it will go to the next one.)

I'm sorry guys, but 2 part question:
1. Can I run this on an old Toshiba laptop? Without going into huge details about specs, I probably got this thing in 2006 or 2007.
2. Can I run this on a one year old Dell NETbook? Inspiron mini?
3. Should I just get a %#$&ing XBOX?

vote-for1vote-against

@thatcrazywyles:
1. Maybe.. to some degree.. your results will vary depending on what kinda of graphics card you have in the laptop.
2. I doubt it.
3. If you want to play more games.. then yes.. wait for BF the Big Box stores are all making some great offers with a few free games thrown into the bundle.

For 2 bucks Bioshock is an amazing deal.. for 50 bucks it was an amazing deal.. really one of the finest games taht has come out in past few years.

I was able to pick this up off of steam a month ago for $5. This is a heck of a deal. The main problem you may have with playing this game is if your video card does not have shader 3.0. You'll be able to tell right away with this game because when you launch it, you won't have a cursor. There is an implementation of this game for shader 2.0 but it doesn't look good imo.

@ardvarkboy
Thanks so much! I really probably won't be playing any other games, which is why I was drooling about this - I'm not much of a gamer, only Silent Hill 1-4, Starcraft and the Megaman Xs... But I want to play Bioshock so hard it makes my hair fall out. I think I'll just go play it at a friends one weekend. Thanks again for the info!

BF = Black Friday. Most of the major electronics chains have super cheap games on sale then.

vote-for1vote-against

I bought it. 4 hours ago. And am still downloading it. Be warned, if you have a slower HS connection - it's a 5.98 GB file.

vote-for1vote-against

@desimo: Having to connect to the internet is also a pain if you've got a laptop. I know occasionally when I'm traveling I wind up in a hotel that wants $20 a night for internet, and I can't really stomach that.

vote-for0vote-against

Just bought this.
Unfortunately, the Windows Live ID Sign-In Assistant software that has to be installed to run this game breaks my network connection to my WD TV.
There is apparently no work-around for this.
So, basically, I'm going to have to pirate the game I just bought so that I can play a version that doesn't break my network.
Way to go Microsoft.

vote-for1vote-against

It tells me I already have a live account with the email address I regularly use, but when I try to reset the password it tells me that my windows live id is invalid.
I give up, windows.

vote-for1vote-against

Bought it. Never tried Games for Windows before. Lets see how my laptop handles it.

vote-for1vote-against

Sweet deal, thanks! Man, I forgot what a pain Windows Live can be - kept asking for my email address when it really wanted my screen name and vice versa...

vote-for1vote-against

the better deal is Age of Empires for $0.10, a $39.89 savings

vote-for1vote-against

GFWL is a PITA but $.10 for age of empires III is worth the hassle IMO.

i hate GFWL but it's not as bad as some allude: you can go offline which disables calling home (after the game activates itself) and use an offline profile.

vote-for1vote-against

Better Get it ASAP if you want it on the website because the sale is over using the GFW Marketplace windows app. I was supposed to be Saturday only.

vote-for1vote-against

ok, people more computer literate than me...i have a toshiba from 2009, dual core. pulled up the stats, my display adapter is mobile intel 965 express chipset family.
does that mean integrated graphics? and can i play bioshock or any cool games?

vote-for1vote-against

@becmojo: If you have an Xbox Live ID or a Hotmail address, that's what you should use. Microsoft uses one ID for everything they do.
