There are a lot of MS Flight Simulator enthusiasts poopooing on this new version because it was made to appeal to a larger audience other than the enthusiasts.

So, you are getting downvotes from those guys out of spite.

This was my favorite game growing up! I'm kind of excited that they brought it back

I wonder why this got so many downvotes. It is not only a free game/simulator but a great game/simulator. My copy is downloading right now.

@skoffer: Hipster flight simulator enthusiasts? Who would have thought.

After playing this for a couple of hours. I like FSX better as a sim. The graphics in Flight are better than FSX but the flight model feels much more arcade like, the physics just aren't quite right. It is fun if you just want to fly around and look at the nice scenery.

I've been playing for an hour or so and it's awesome.

Sorry to hear this is a lesser sim. That said, I have plenty of fun with my arcade racers, despite loving realism (LFS, rFactor, GTR). So there's room on my hard drive for this as well as DCS. Downloading now, so we'll see.

Also, wtf is with the 32-bit?? It's 2012. It's made by MS. Get over the 32-bit hurdle already.

@afterburn2600: 64 bit architecture is only really worth it if you're expecting your application to use more than 4 gigs of memory, otherwise it just chews up resources and bloats the binary size. That generally translates to an astronomical amount of developer- or artist-hours of work, so only a handful of apps can take advantage of it.

Now just have to wait for a good deal to come up on a joystick.

I am terrible with games like this with a Mouse and Keyboard but I switched over to my Xbox 360 controller and was flying like a champ.

vote-for3vote-against

can i run it on my windows 8?

vote-for3vote-against

@ruger9mm: I believe that was the idea. This is why a lot of people complained. As a sim, this one isn't as good as FSX. But it wasn't intended to be a sim. It was intended to be a game that leveraged some of their existing code base. Gone are the days when you could actually train preflight on MS Flight Simulator. But on the bright side, it means that not EVERYone was fired when they closed the flight sim project.

This is a terrible day for flight simulators. I agree with eneref. Not a sim, just a game.

I guess I will stick to the DCS sims and IL2 to capture some of the realism.

I really would like to see Microsoft re-engineer ACes of the Pacific and Combat Flight Simulator. Downing kamikazis much more fun than just flying.
Probably ain't politically correct anymore.......

i'm not sure why panties are being bunched, fsx was also a watered down (in terms of sim integrity) version of '04. i'll take '04 with add ons any day of the week, but this seems like a nice introduction to the sim world. dcs is a bit too esoteric for most.

@bogus: have you seen the types of rigs running fsx/fs04 at max settings? 4g is barely even ballpark. i'm a little disappointed that this is basically pilotwings with better water textures.

vote-for2vote-against

I wonder if thing supports a joystick?? A STICK IS the way to fly an airplane!!

vote-for2vote-against

@bogus: Thanks for the reply. Point well made on the bloat, but I agree with @camleish that 4GB is really not that much for a resource hog like a high fidelity flight sim. Maybe this isn't high-fidelity [enough] and has no need for that sort of RAM. Also remember it's only 4GB LESS your video card (which for me is 1700 MB or so...then I only have 2GB remaining for the rest.

That is of course assuming your 32-bit game running on a 64-bit OS only allocates 32-bit worth of physical memory. Not sure on that one, so I'm talking out my a$$ a bit more than I should (sorry).

Early work means I won't get to try this until later. :(

Can't wait to play it! Explorers and enthusiasts alike can enjoy this game, it's not only for the hardcore like FSX/04.

I say let the "MS Flight Simulator Enthuasists" that skoffer speaks of "poop" all they want. I've flown this sim since v4 and I say the new one is looking great and the price is right. So, who's to complain, enjoy the sim for what it's worth. If you don't like it that's ok, I do, and it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks or says, I'll still be content. Just sayin'

@davebrik99: Yes it can be played with a joystick or game pad.
