Nice camera, great price. I bought one of these last year and it has totally replaced my DSLR camera. It's small enough to fit in a (large) pocket and take anywhere with me, and powerful enough to get almost any kind of shot I want to take.

The amazon reviews are either good or awful and those from target ones seem the worse

According to most reviews, turn it to Auto mode and it works out great. Don't buy it expecting to get DSLR quality images - it is a "point and shoot"

1) It's a $100 camera. For $100, it's pretty good.
2) It's not a big lens. It's a big lens cover on a small lens. This means it needs mucho light to make a good picture.
3) It ain't magic. Got blur? Stop moving! A cheap tripod makes almost everybody a better photog. Lean on something, whatever, keep the camera still.
4) Talk to my Spanish buddy, Manual. He's really smart, writes a lot of books, and he's almost always right. Read what he says, go thru the menus, and practice. Practice some more. Know what (and why!) you're doing before you try and show off.

The electronics and the software keep getting cheaper. The glass lenses increase in price with inflation because they have been around since Galileo. This has an excellent zoom range which you may never use for the price of a point and shoot with a 5x zoom you may never use. Besides, it is a Nikon.
