Another one of these 10+ Vote Deals that will die on the fresh page, it seems. Woot, your algorithms are very funny...
I have absolutely no reason to get these, but I'm tempted simply because they are so cheap, and praying mantises are soo cool! I know a few teachers, maybe they'd like a few hundred of these crawling around their classrooms. =P
ugh why would anyone want this if you didn't have a garden. Wouldn't it be crazy if it hatched enroute.
$14.56 was the cheapest shipping option.
I think the shipping's high because they have to ship it in a styrofoam container with an ice pack.
Just what I need violent bugs that I can be fined/arrested for killing.
I got mine in the mail about a week ago. I can't wait until they hatch! We are going to turn one loose in the parrot room to catch the one or two moths that we are always seeing in there. I know I am weird.
Need to combine these with the uranium ore and have some real insect eaters!
finally! Now i can learn kungfu straight from the source!
This is awesome!
I wonder what would happen if I were to plant this under my roommate's bed...
@asylum56: beat me to it grrr
Funny story about these actually. My dad bough a few of these egg sacks for his garden about 20 years ago when I was a kid. They are supposed to be good for eating harmful bugs in the garden and what not. Well anyway, he put all the egg sacks in the garden but forgot one in his jacket pocket. They ended up hatching in the house and we had praying mantises running around the house for years. So I guess moral of the story is, let them hatch outside :)
Is this their regular price?
I'd love a couple of cases for my backyard and the neighbor, but it won't be warm enough for a good couple of months...
I haven't looked at the site - but if they don't warn you: hatching these in a jar is fun and all - but if you don't get them some "food" (aphids) they go cannibalistic in just a couple days.
My sister and I collected between 10-20 of these as kids, not knowing what they were. Put them in a box under her bed. You can guess what happened.
@anthonyrk: They eat mosquitos. I don't have a garden but I have a yard, and anything that will eat those frikken things is all right by me.
@pufferfishy: So do humans.
Praying mantis' can be vicious!!! Look for videos of Mantis' eating hummingbirds and field mice! AWESOME !!
I want this but it's still too cold. I hope this price stays, I have a huge wooded area behind my apartment and I'd love to release these little guys there.
ground shipping for me is $10.25
I got my egg case about a month ago and they hatched two days ago. I set 31 babies free outside and kept 6, had one fatality in the "pagoda" this morning. I fed them afids and a few other small insects I could get my hands on (much harder than you'd think)...
One of my egg cases hatched from the pagoda's I got from woot a bit back. About 150 babies. First day just one came out, but the next morning I walked in and the egg jar was filled!
Let them all go.
