No free shipping, but price was too good to pass on!

Yes Nook ST is much better and worth the extra money IMO, if anything for the battery life. Having to charge the original Nook every 3 or 4 days kinda stinks. Also, the display is much better on the Nook ST.

I had one of these before I got the Simple Touch. It's definitely not as good for reading as The Simple Touch, which has a better screen, better word lookup, easier navigation, a lot longer battery life, etc. The original Nook is still a pretty solid ereader though, and like some mentioned, it has chess and sudoku games, can surf the internet (although it's slow and hardly worth doing, but can be handy in a pinch), and can also play audio/mp3 and has a speaker and a headphone jack. All of which you don't get on the newer model.

@artshowhero: FYI, when it was posted there were ones with all of the accessories. Those sell 1st and this has been up all day.

Price is hard to beat, but the hassle of not having the power adapter and cable are annoying.

I like my 1st gen better than the touch. Being smaller and all touch screen isn't useful enough to get rid of chess and sudoku. You could say if you want games to get the tablet versions, but I do use it for reading 90% of the time and I love the e-ink. I just like getting to knock out a quick puzzle or get destroyed in chess even on easy when I can't decide what to read or I want to take a small break.

This is a great deal. I got one a few years ago and used it to read free ebooks from the library. Text and grayscale images look great on it. Had a lot of fun making some grayscale photos to use as screensavers and the wallpaper.

I received a Kindle Fire for my birthday last year so I gave the Nook to my guy who uses it to read a lot of ebooks and pdfs he finds online. Though I enjoy the features of the Kindle, I kinda miss straight-up reading on the Nook. It was pretty easy on the eyes, not that the Kindle isn't, but it was just more pleasant in a geeky way.

@daninboulder: Cowboom allows a 30-day no hassle return. This should alleviate most worries. You simply click RMA, choose reason (including "changed my mind"), and a pre-paid return label is printed. It is by far the easiest return system going. No need to even contact anyone.

@sweetness: I didn't phrase it well, I don't mind a refurb as one assumes it has been tested etc., but Cowboom is strictly returns correct? As far as BB I just bought a $600 laptop from them with my BB credit card so am def. a loyal customer

Hard to pass up, for $30 its worth a shot

Pretty good deal for the first gen Nook and I still have and use mine (along with a Nook HD). However, be warned that the e-reader software for navigation, bookmarks, word lookup etc. is old and a bit clunky and not close when compared to the Simple Touch and others. So are the options and other functions as well and the battery charge doesn't last near as long. Once you have a book loaded and reading it works OK and as I mentioned, I still use mine for that and don't worry about it getting knocked around or dirty. For $25 it's worth playing with but I would really recommend getting the Simple Touch ($79 and there was a deal on here for a $30 BN card when using a Mastercard.) I definitely loved it when it first came out.

@sweetness: does anyone actually trust Best Buy? The whole MLK day fiasco comes to mind, along with the idiot squad....

@daninboulder: Cowboom is a subsidiary of Best Buy. No need to mistrust them unless you also mistrust Best Buy...

This is a great price. However, the 1st Gen with 3G is better. WiFi is great, but being able to download books anywhere cell service (no contract required) is available is better!

I am a veracious book reader, and read 99% on eBook. I had this Nook and it was great, but do yourself a huge favor and put the money towards the Simple Touch. No comparison IMO, and for some reason I just don't trust Cowboom,

Great price!! I'm in for one! Already have a few ebook readers. Been wanting to play around with the original Nook. The price is certainly right for this one. Thanks!

Shipping wasn't free, though. Even with the $5.24 shipping, it's still a good deal.
