I know someone is going to complain about "why not just build your own", but I bought one about 4 years ago because I needed something and needed it NOW.

Love it - works fine, no problems at all.

I don't think this is a sale price, or if it is the sale has been going on for the better part of a year now.

This is a decent bench but if you're a hand tool user you might have issues if you plan on doing any planing.

Can find better deal on upsized version now at HF site

HF near near me is having a tent sale, so anyone near an actual store might want to check for deals there.

This is pretty much regular price for anyone that gets the coupons or emails, isn't it?

@sumduud: Yes ... but different areas get different coupons -- I am going to go look at it this weekend... and then decide if we want one.

@pz@woot: I went to the tent sale to pick up other things and this is $159 in store

Make sure you sort by negative reviews first. It looks like the top is really only 3/4" thick with a side railing making it look beefier. There are a lot of complaints about the top splitting over time. The drawer rails are crap and some of the material is pressed board, not solid wood (drawers and bottom table). I was going to pull the trigger on this, but I think I'll just end up building my own...

I just used the $40 off code and it worked, $135.55 total, (shipping, tax, everything), I don't know where that code comes from, but sure am thankful for you posting it

whoever is buying this is obviously not a serious woodworker. This thing is more like a swing than a bench. Looked it over at the store and it swayed back and forth. The only good thing about this bench is that if you're sawingany wood, all you have to do is cut once and the bench will sway back and forth so much that it will cut the board for you.

Anyone with direct experience with this workbench have any thoughts on how it would serve as a kitchen island? It's about an inch or two shorter than I'd prefer, but better than the table I'm using now. I wouldn't be doing any food prep directly on the surface of the bench...

I prefer "2x4 Basics Workbench Kit, Model# 90158MI
by 2x4 Basics" at Amazon for $60, (you supply the 2x4's). It seems very sturdy. There is also a model with a riser and shelf, like the one at HF, for a bit more.

I just picked up a damaged unit marked down to $60 w/Insider Track Club Membership included (Managers deal). It was missing the back of the drawers but made my own. It is a decent unit. If you tighten it up while putting it together it has no wobble. The earlier comment about it wobbling in the store was probably because they didn't tighten the bolts.
Pros
- Solid unit for the price
- Felt lined drawers
- Vice with metal and wooden pegs

Cons
- I wish it was a little deeper (20" deep)
- The holes in the top go through to the drawers allowing in sawdust
- Top not as thick as it looks but still strong

Overall a good unit for the price. Not top of the line but decent for a starter bench.
