I prefer the older gens that can be operated by touch only, no need to look at screen. However, if you want this, decent early price.

@f00l:

Umm I think you're getting the new nano mixed up with the old shuffle. Not the old shuffle but the old, old shuffle. Which looks a lot like the new shuffle. Which kinda looks like the new nano (now that I've thought about it), just with out the fancy touch screen. Is it just me or does apple have a bit of schizophrenia when it comes to the design of there iPods?

@macdeviant

No, I'm with f00l, I have a 3rd gen Nano and I can just feel for the click wheel to adjust the volume or change tracks, no looking required. The new model requires looking at the screen.

@emilyb0902: unless you use the headset that comes with the remote control and mic...then you can use the controls on the headset....

vote-for3vote-against

The new Nano and Shuffle do not ship with the 'premium' headsets that include inline controls.

This is the same price as Amazon.com, Amazon is much more trustworthy and faster shipping too.

Apple is Crapple, been saying that for years

@swbf2cheater: Thanks for your opinion. Unfortunately for you hundreds of millions of people around the world do not agree. If nothing else you have to admit that the company and their products are a success.

vote-for1vote-against

@quarlesr: Thanks for YOUR opinion. Unfortunately those hundreds of millions of people do not know how to use Google to find out what other brands of Mp3 players are a much better value and much much cheaper, perhaps even offer you a micro sd slot, built of titanium and scratch proof glass with amazing EQ ability like Cowon the Sansa fuze. ANYONE who cares about audio quality will never buy an Ipod. 99% of Audiophiles will beat you up and pick on you if you use Apple products because they are just so awful in every way.

vote-for3vote-against

Apple has merely succeeded in proving that the general populous is retarded. Buying a product for twice or more than another brand simply because their "extra geeky friend said Apple is good" and for no actually viable reason.

Apple products have never been any better than any other comparable item, in any way. The whole "macs never crash" is a load, I've crashed Macs just as much as PCs.

You can purchase nearly any other MP3 player that does exactly the same thing for half the price, but look slightly less cool. Motorola Razor anyone?

Edit: and no, hundreds of millions of people is a way over exaggeration.

vote-for2vote-against

I prefer my Sansa Clip. I rarely listen to MP3s except in my car, and my 8GB flash drive serves me better.

Apple does have free engraving if you buy from them, though.

PS., Learn the difference between "there" and "their"

As a sound designer and composer, I do care about audio quality. However, when I'm at the gym, I'm not going for a compelling sonic experience. I want something easy to use, convenient and reliable. My iPod provides those features.

There are dozens of other products available. A person should choose one that suits them best. Knocking any MP3 player for how it sounds, given MP3s are a lossy format to begin with and most people will listen through earbuds, is disingenuous at best.

vote-for1vote-against

@swbf2cheater: Yes yes yes. MP3 players.

sigh

What about AAC players? Any out there to beat this line of products?

Given that I do care about audio quality, I want an audio format that can compress audio to a smaller filesize with the same level of loss, or with a lower level of loss for the same bitrate. AAC and Ogg/Vorbis are my two choices then...

Now show me a well supported ripper/player for my computer that makes it easy to organize my library of 9,000+ songs, audio diaries (often called "podcasts", presumably because, like worms, pods leave behind a cast of poop), lectures, and music-related movies (the kind that last 20 minutes or more).

And finally show me a portable device that will make it easy to carry around said audio and video files.

No, I thought you didn't have an alternative.

I'm pretty annoyed actually that I'm locked into Apple's AAC right now. But there really isn't an alternative; and aside from the initial cost, it really works rather well.

vote-for1vote-against

Not really that big of a deal.

Plus Amazon has them for the same price: http://amzn.to/dgaKu8

I love apple... apple's products really sets a standard for everything else in the market... but i have boycotted apples products for the last 4 years...the reason being apple's closed mindedness, labor exploitation and jobs just being a D**K...

So
Would i love to have any of the apples products...YES
Do i believe in standing for whats right and fair....HELL YEA!

So thats my $0.02

This is the mini iTouch.

You really shouldn't be expected to pay $140-plus for a 8GB multimedia player with the tech we have today. Find a media player with a micro-SD expansion slot instead.

Having purchased a 4 gig 3g NANO and immediately having buyer's remorse, I don't think I'll ever buy the model with less memory again. For $30, you get twice as much storage.

As for where to get them cheap, I buy all my apple products (including two ipods and my laptop) refurbished through apple. I save a little dough, and I've never had a problem.

@rfsmit: I think the Zune is a viable alternative...

It supports AAC. And the quality of the sound on a Zune is actually better than what you get from an iPod

It will support your podcasts and movies, etc. And the Zune software is better than iTunes imho, it runs faster, I've never seen it kill a computer, and I prefer the interface.

The ZuneHD makes the iPod Touch feel fat, the screen is slightly smaller (about 50 pixels) but it has a much higher pixel density than the Touch. It also has an OLED screen that shows colors better and takes less battery to run. On top of that the only way you could break it is if you seriously tried...

Of course if you are on a Mac the Zune software Isnt supported (you'd need bootcamp or something similar to get a windows install to run it from. The only drawback is that there are next to no apps for the Zune HD (which comes in 16, 32, and 64 GB capacities) You can also opt for the regular Zune (no touch screen but it comes in up to 120 GBs)

@burninglava001: Set the standard as in old technology in a shiny wrapper?

vote-for1vote-against

@swbf2cheater: I do like apple. But I do now own everything they make. Their computers are worth every penny. I got a free ipod touch when i bought mine and thats all i own. I choose to have an android phone because i do see more merit in them, there are more options and it is on a better provider.

But... as an apple stock holder i can tell you that investing in this company has given me 250% profit in 1.5 years. That can mean nothing but a sucessful company.

I still use my iPod Nano 1st gen every day, all day at work. Had to replace it once when the battery stopped holding an adequate charge (Apple replaced it for $60). I'd say I've gotten more than my moneys worth over the years. I may buy this one just for the clip feature though.

vote-for1vote-against

Wow, this is the first I've seen of the new Nano. Can you tell I don't keep up with this kind of stuff? I got a new 8GB 5th gen here on Woot for $100. This place is selling them for $34 more! 1saleaday.com had some really good deals on iPods a few months ago. They were selling refurb 16GB 5th gen Nanos for $120. Would have gotten one of those if I hadn't already gotten one on Woot.

All the above comments on how "Apple sucks" are pointless.

Most people buy them for their size, and their GUI(graphical user interface).

Apple has the highest quality GUIs by far, the Zune HD isn't a comparison to it(not open app store), I would know because I've used the Zune HD and the Ipod Touch 3rd gen before, there is nothing like the Ipod Touch.

I agree, if your looking for something to strictly listen to music with, a small flashdrive-turned-mp3-player would work for you.

And with the new Ipod Touch 4g, it beats the Zune by afar(I've used it, better quality).
