This is the normal price for a Roku LT no? BTW this is an excellent device... I was one of the beta testers and I loved it!

it is normal price, I have it and... meh. Free channels are crap quality, I prefer to stream netflix on ps3. Not impressed overall.

i have a roku that i bought from woot awhile back and i LOVE it, i mainly use hulu plus and pandora but even just that its worth it. I would say buy one, specially if you have netflix or hulu plus (if you have both then thats even better)

@katanaryda: This is great for Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon Prime users. In fact, it's the only device that can stream Amazon Prime.

The point here is that roku.com is all sold out and amazon still has it. The original price is $49.99. I got one of these from amazon a while back for $44.99. BUY THEM ONLY IF YOU LOVE STREAMING CHANNELS. If you want to play local media, this is not for you :)

Can someone please explain this device. What kind of channels does it give if you DO NOT want subscribe to Netflix or any other service?

Thank you.

FWIW, Google TV devices can also stream Amazon Prime.

this is the normal price for the LT but I see they no longer sell the LT off their main site.....

also the roku site for the featured streaming channels

@hayedid: There's plenty of free stuff, not necessarily up to network standards, but I find plenty of free stuff to watch. I mostly use the Roku to stream TV shows and movies from my media server.

For channel listings see: http://www.roku.com/roku-channel-store

@dirtydignity: Have you heard of Plex media server? I use it with my Roku to stream media and I love it. It will stream just about any type of video or audio file including .iso. The LT doesn't even have USB and the XS is extremely limited to types of files it will play from the USB port, but Plex (its a private channel) overcomes these limitations.

@mrtheshadow: this is not the only device to stream Amazon Prime. Google TV, some Sony TVs and Blu Ray Players (BDP-S580, for example) also natively support Amazon. Roku has also released a free app that allows you to use the keyboard on your smartphone or iPod touch to search for content (on Amazon or other channels) and control the device over wifi.

Yikes! The purple color kills it 4 me! Shame cuz this is a gr8 little unit!

vote-for1vote-against

@girlbytes: If the purple color is that much of a problem, paint it. It's really small, so won't take much time or paint to change the color. Just be sure to mask off the black ring on the bottom, as that is where the IR signals from the remote are received through.

This is regular price. The model above this is $59.99 and if you ask me, its worth the extra $10 to not have a purple box IMHO

@grush1: any issues with "cinavision copy protection" that you have seen? I usually stream...content...from my PC to PS3 and that usually works great but some of that content is blocked by cinavision.

@hayedid: If you do not have a Hulu+, Netflix, or Amazon Prime subscription, then this device is not really worth it. Sure there are free "channels", but they are not that great as far as content, the quality of the free "channels" is mostly sub-par.

I guess if you do not have the subscriptions listed above, the only other free quality content is audio, namely Pandora or TuneInRadio, which the latter has over 10k radio station feeds from around the world. And I guess you can also rent/buy movies from Amazon or Crackle, but you have to pay...

@jesterfx: I haven't had any issues with Cinavision. I have my Roku upstairs in my den to stream to my old SD CRT TV. I use PS3 Media Server to stream HD content to my 65" HDTV downstairs. I'm almost tempted to get another Roku box to use with that TV as Plex server automatically downloads artwork and descriptions of TV shows and movies.

@mrxindeed: Thanks, I didn't know about Catastrophe Girl, I added it to the bookmarks. The best private channel list IMHO is at http://streamfree.tv/apps/roku-private-channels/
