Almost Famous [Blu-ray]: The Bootleg Cut for $13.48
This semiautobiographical film by Cameron Crowe had been missing on BluRay (at least in the U.S.) for while, and was just re-issued this month. The movie features a nice performance by Francis McDormand as the mother ("Don't do drugs!") and an absolutely movie stealing turn by Philip Seymour Hoffman as Lester Bangs, the alternative music writer who served as a mentor to the real Cameron Crowe. He has one of the best lines in modern movie making:
"Oh, no. You made friends with them. They told you that you were cool. Look, I know you. You aren't cool."
Tucked into the supplementary materials is a great interview with Nancy Wilson (Heart) Crowe's wife and the writer for much of the original music for the movie. She talks about their first date.
Price is down to $11.24. Should have waited a few days.
