just saw this too:

HP TOUCHPAD CLEARANCE AND RETURN POLICY

Due to HP's decision to discontinue its TouchPad product, Best Buy® will now provide clearance pricing for all TouchPad 16GB and 32GB models (SKUs 2842056, 2842092) regardless of previously advertised prices or promotions.

Best Buy will not accept customer returns or exchanges on clearance-priced TouchPads bought through any Best Buy channel.

Customers purchasing a TouchPad at clearance pricing will have a 1-year manufacturer's warranty, fulfilled directly through HP, not Best Buy.

Customers who purchased the 16GB or 32GB TouchPad after June 19 may come into the store to get either a full refund or a refund of the difference between the price they paid and the clearance price.

Quantities are strictly limited. Limit 1 per customer. Best Buy cannot guarantee availability of inventory at this pricing at any particular Best Buy location or channel.

Hey guys; what is the real difference between the 16Gb and the 32Gb one?

Would it be easy to upgrade a 16Gb one to 32Gb or is it just as easy to purchase the 32Gb one?

vote-for2vote-against

@petecaller: as far as i know this are not too easy to crack open and upgrade the HDD. I would just shell out the extra $50 now. Definitely worth for twice the capacity.

vote-for2vote-against

Thanks; most likely will root mine; that's why I was asking. I did order the 32Gb one this morning. I couldn't understand the original price point other than the similiarity to the IPad.

I noticed that HP still doesn't have them online.

vote-for1vote-against

Got some! a 32 to be delivered and a 16 to be picked up at the local BB

vote-for1vote-against

The memory is embedded so no user upgrades
The cool part of WebOS is you don't have to root them the OS is already open.

vote-for1vote-against

Ah, that's interesting (embedded memory). That's great if I can just run linux and add to it....

vote-for1vote-against

They are gone from the BB site as of 7:36 AM Central time. That's really fast!

vote-for1vote-against

I went back to BB website to order two more 30 minutes after my first order and they are no longer listed as available for pickup or online order.

vote-for0vote-against

you get a 50 gb cloud acct no need to get the 32 unless the 16 is soldout which both are now anyway

vote-for-5vote-against

WENT TO BEST BUY. WAS TOLD THEY CAN ONLY SELL FIVE OF THESE ITEMS AT THAT PRICE PER STORE. AS USUAL, OLD BAIT AND SWITCH. THINK THEY WOULD HAVE ENOUGH SENSE TO REALIZE ALL THEY ARE GOING TO DO IS PISS OFF A LOT OF POTENTIAL CUSTOMERS

vote-for2vote-against

@tonythaxton: You buying more than 5 will piss off the customers lol

vote-for2vote-against

@semer3: He said 5 "per store" Not 5 per customer.

vote-for1vote-against

Does that mean BB could have sold him one for the regular price ? If so, he should have bought one and followed the refund policy for the price difference.

vote-for1vote-against

you may be able to get one with retry...and patients...but the ID isn't setup once you get done..and no email is returned to your email address to validate. You also can not re-signon site to review as your ID is not setup. You do have a lock on your credit card..so you can see that.
But overall its pretty unclear if this one works (using the hp smb)

vote-for1vote-against

I got the 32GB (posting from it right now) one and I don't really think it's worth it. First of all, it's a waste of machine to use your pad as your dedicated mp3 player, so you will only need about 6-8 GB for music. There aren't enough apps to fill up 2 GB. Then you have streaming, which would only take up 1 GB at most. It only plays mp4 movies (no 3rd party media players either) and it's not likely you will find a good source of mp4 movies to fill this thing up. You are probably better off buying the 16GB one.

vote-for2vote-against

took awhile but I got 2 x 32GB units at 12:45PM EST. We'll see if they honor. (at HP SMB online store)

vote-for1vote-against

Visited the local best buy this morning at opening... They received an employee memo yesterday to lower the price and clear them out so they were sold out yesterday...
The HP small business site shows the 32Gb model and allows you to put them in your cart but crashes as soon as you attempt to view the cart or complete the transaction...

vote-for2vote-against

@dollarsigntheduck: Thanks, After many "memory errors," I was also successful in purchasing one!!!

vote-for2vote-against

@veazeya: I was also now able to log back in and check the status of my order - so it is in the system. But i did not receive an email confirmation.

vote-for2vote-against

I got to my local Best Buy at 7:45am this morning and waited in line...they had 14 32gb and 4 16gb to sell and there were about 40 people in line. Luckily I was 11th. They said they're not getting any more shipped from the warehouse.

vote-for2vote-against

Didn't hear that BB was opening earl, just got there and they were sold out :( :(

Anyone get a second one they'd be willing sell to a poor sap?

vote-for1vote-against

Was able to complete order for 2 after trying about 2 hours at HP.com small business. No email confirm yet....keeping my fingers crossed.

vote-for1vote-against

Finally!!! Patience and stubbornness pay off...
Managed to get thru' on the HP small business site after many, many attempts ending in 404s and memory errors... Order fully entered with CC# and receipt printed out with order #... No e-mail confirmation yet, but hoping...
Now the wait.....

vote-for2vote-against

So like everyone else, i been trying since 11AM EST to pick up 1. I got all the way to entering my CC and eventually session timed out. I saw the post that it was officially "SOLD OUT", but i was finally able to complete my order! Received email with confirmation number @ 2:32PM.

If you made it this far to have your info put in, keep trying if you still have the URL on your screen!

vote-for2vote-against

Ok, try this. It just worked. Go to HP Small Business, and put two in the cart. It did not time out. Then went in and took one out, and it went right to the check out screen, and I just got the Confirmation. Everytime I tried to put just one in the cart, it would time out.

vote-for2vote-against

how are you adding to cart? whenever I go to the small business site it just says sold out, is there something else I should click?

vote-for2vote-against

Got all the way to the last step. It showed me an order number and ID number and said it just needed to verify my credit card. It went by so fast I didn't have time to write down the numbers@#$!! Then I got the error pages, overflow, out of memory, etc. When I logged back in it said the item is sold out and there's no record of any orders in my account. DRAT

vote-for2vote-against

I was just able to get all the way through the process on HP's site!! (after 3 hours of trying)It let me log back in and see my receipt/ confirmation afterwards. Now I'm just crossing my fingers and hoping my order doesn't get rejected on Monday...

vote-for2vote-against

I did the HP small business side thing this morning (7am EST). My bank account was hit up from HP for two $1 charges, I am assuming to verify the CC. However now that I logged in and I go to my order status is says this:

We are unable to process your order, please contact a representative at 1-800-888-9909.
Order number: 441xxxxx
Order date: 8/21/2011 12:15:05 PM

Of course it is Sunday and they are closed. So I am going to assume I did not get one in time.

vote-for2vote-against

Thanks to each of you for taking your time to post this great deal and comments here! I almost gave us after many attempts to purchase the HP touchpad and received many errors page. I saw the tip about the URL and went back to find the link from my "history pages" and was able to get through the site with my credit card info and even got an order number. I went really fast since I was afraid that the web site will crash on me again but was able to wrote down the order number. Guess what? I went back to check on my order staus and saw this message above my order info "We are unable to process your order, please contact a representative at 1-800-888-9909." I am just going to wait and hope that I will get one. Also, one person from the other site was saying that Walmart is sending back all of their in stock HP touchpads to HP. Do you think when HP receives these items they will have try to sell them off online again?

vote-for2vote-against

@portezbie: Thanks for the link! I went in and check and this store still have both of the $99 and $149. I was thinking about getting one from here since my order status with HP SMB is still showing "unable to process the order", however, if my order goes through then I will end up with 2 touchpads if I make my purchase with this store on Amazon. Oh man, I don't know what to do since I really want one of these and don't want to miss out on the great on sale deal.

vote-for3vote-against

@portezbie: thanks for the link! just ordered one as well... we´ll see if it´s good in a couple of days!

vote-for3vote-against

I ordered the 32gb from Amazon, the seller is apparently a subsidiary of MacMall so it seems legit. I'm just not why I had to have it...I guess I got caught up in the chase :-)

vote-for1vote-against

@portezbie: Just ordered a 32 version. Hope it works! Thanks for the link!

vote-for1vote-against

I ordered 2 from the first link but why does it say a smartbuy touchpad?

vote-for0vote-against

Yes, I also wonder what does it it "smartbuy touchpad"? Also why does the model # is different from Bestbuy and Staples and OfficeDepot?

vote-for1vote-against

@portezbie: Thanks for these links! I ordered the 32GB, though I too am not sure I can say I need it. We'll see if there are inventory issues with this seller soon enough. Definitely interested in checking out webOS (for what it's worth given its impending demise) but am especially interested to see if someone will try to port Android to this device.

vote-for1vote-against

it's a pretty solid piece of hardware, so should be a worthy investment. Hopefully once everyone has one after this sale we will see android ported to it.

vote-for1vote-against

Just ordered one from the amazon link, looks like the part # is different because " The reason for the difference is that the model number changes slightly between consumer and business versions, but that's the only difference. " I copied this from amazon. Picked up 2 yesterday from microcenter for my kids and forgot about myself, so now I'll have one for myself as well. Have some on backorder from HP & Officedepot but since I don't know if I'll get it from them hopefully this one will arrive
Thanks for all the info

vote-for1vote-against

Just ordered a $99 one. It's so cheap, I figured it's worth the gamble, even though I know nothing about the HP Touchpad. What I know, though, is that my wife would enjoy having her own computer tablet. I've already got an iPad2 and love it, but an extra one for surfing the web will be nice, and even nicer once Android 3.x can be ported to it.

vote-for0vote-against

Staples had the 16GB for $49 after instant coupon, unfortunately they are also sold out.

vote-for1vote-against

I just ordered a $99 unit from the link above. Thanks Portezbie! Hopefully, it'll go through just fine. I've already got an iPad2, but another tablet for the wife will be nice, especially after Android 3.x is available for porting. As it is, the HP OS seems to get pretty great reviews, though, and my wife may not even want to change it.
