This is a really good deal, I just bought 2 Nooks a month ago, they were $250 each. I felt lucky I had a coupon from B&N for $25 off.

Jump on this one if you can!

It's not a deal because it's refurbished. The OP should have mentioned this in the post, and it's not clear at Icemonkey.com until you click on the "Specification" tab.

Barnes & Noble sells them at this price with free shipping all the time through their eBay store (I just bought one) and Buy.com offers them via their B&N storefront for the same price.

Refurb Nook Colors go on sale, but for less than the price on this deal.

So, while bstu185 was correct, if not particularly eloquent.

Its refurbished.

Normally refurbished units don't bother me.

However after many phone calls to BN's nook line I found this out from one of their customer service rep's:

B&N uses a team of "tech specialists" to determine if they have to replace parts. The bottom line, if it powers on - has no dead pixels, it doesn't matter how long the screen has been turned on for - they'll ship it out as refurb'ed. They leave it up to fate if your Nook hardware is to fail.

They do have the same parts warranty as NEW units, but typically parts fail with time. Question you have to ask yourself: Do you want to start with new parts (most would assume they replace the touch screen as its a wearable part - they don't always replace the screen no questions asked), or risk the chance that the unit fail for 100 bucks less?

When you factor in the BN rewards discount now on nooks - Its not that big of a difference.

Now if someone finds a NEW unit for this price - I'm in for 2.

@drfaulken: Whoops - You beat me to the refurb'ed comment.

@ultgamewiz: That's okay, you had additional info about refurbished Nooks, so I upped your comment :D

@cschafer: Unless I'm looking in the wrong location on buy.com, the one for $149 on there links back to refurbs from B&N if you click the "See All Buying Options" button. The new one there is still $238 (w/shipping).

@drfaulken: Thanks for mentioning the refurb. I didn't realize it wasn't new. (I should have KNOWN better!) As with all refurbs, it's buyer beware. Sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn't.

Why all the refurb trashing? Are we not on Deal.Woot?
For that price I'll risk a refurbished unit.
Though I agree, it should have said that right in the header.

@drfaulken: You are correct that it isn't clear on the icemonkey site that the units are refurbs, and I didn't note it in my post because I did not see it, even though I read through the site... sorry.

I don't have any experience with the site, and I did not purchase the deal myself, but I thought someone else might be interested.

I left it to the consumer to do the research behind the deal... I'm just the messenger. ;) I did not have the time to research it further, like other posters have done. I think the information others have found, and shared with us is wonderful.

This forum is an invaluable resource for the consumer, and I appreciate it, and all who contribute to it. :)

@lindal33: I agree. I love deals.woot.com and all those who contribute. Its what makes this site awesome! Thanks for alert on the deal. :)
