Still one of the best PC games.
One of the best! Yeah, and you can register your beta key on battle.net and maybe get picked for some Diablo III beta testing!
A classic RTS game in terms of both single and multiplayer. The single player campaign has a complex and entertaining plot, unlike most RTS games which have a superficial feel to them. The only RTS games with storylins that can rival StarCraft's would be Age of Mythology and Warcraft III. I went back to all three games and played a some of the missions again recently. The graphics are not so sweet any more, but it was definitely worth playing the games all over again. The only thing stopping me are the time constraints due to school and work.
Dorks
playable under windows vista and 7?
@tigrange: My son plays it on his Win 7 machine but didn't tell me if he had to do anything special to make it work
still the best. trying to get used to starcraft II (still!) but I definitely miss the first one
If anyone wants to know, Starcraft and Starcraft: Brood War do work on a Mac OS X, but requires Rosetta to play. OS X 10.7 (Lion) does not support Rosetta at all, so the game will only work on 10.6 and below. Performance is generally terrible (on a Macbook, at least) and graphics can be glitchy.
@shadowhand: Thanks for the info.
@niloc225: believe it or not, but mine is still shrink wrapped. unbelievable! (i actually have quite a few that have never been played.)
ok, it might be true. i could be a video game junky.
I think I played this on my Pentium 100.
