Is it just me or does everything tastes better when cooked in cast iron?

vote-for0vote-against

These skillets look sick... but I don't really need one :/

vote-for12vote-against

I really want one of these, but just can't justify the $29.99 at the moment.

Perhaps in my next BOC???????

I wonder how well these pans work for flying monkies?

Crank up the burner and throw your steak on there at max temperature. Leave plenty charred on the outside and bloody as hell on the inside. Cast iron pans are great for when you don't have a good barbeque.

@wormburnr:
They do, yes, but they're in my opinion best used with hard fats and not light oils, so...That could possibly conflict with some peoples diets.
Personally I low carb, and eat high carb/fat, so these things work very very well.

Is it the same one which is like $18 or 19 at walmart and target, etc..

vote-for15vote-against

@grohotanie: Yes it is, other than the woot-exclamation-point.

I'm too frugal to buy something just for a woot-mark. :)

vote-for3vote-against

Now, if you could buy one with your own custom thing on the bottom, I'd be all over this.

As it is, it's a little bit expensive for me.

I have a few Lodge cast iron peices... skillets and griddles.. Treated right (no detergents, no steel wool), they will last forever, and they work better than anything else I have used. I wanted to get this Woot one... but I do already have a 12 inch... (and my wife wont let me) If you dont already have one... GET ONE.

Ten bucks less @ Walmart without the unnecessary exclamation point:

If you make pancakes with the pan bottom side up (gas stove top), the exclamation point does show up on the pancakes. The kids think is it great.

This is a marriage therapy device right?

@casey00001:
Yes, Dear!

(see how well that works?)

Also $10 less on Amazon. Great pans!

If you need a reminder of the previous woots: $29.99 both times, like now, and many comments
http://home.woot.com/forums/viewpost.aspx?postid=4979401 first sale

http://home.woot.com/forums/viewpost.aspx?postid=5219130 maybe more worthwhile, with comments from people who bought the first time

Meh, it would be nicer if they had this at $20/25. I'll probably wait and see if they have these up again at a cheaper price.

I received one of these as a gift and use it at least twice a week. It's a great size for making large sauteed dinners or stir fry. It is a bit heavy to lift, however, so be warned. Some great accessories to go with this would be an insulated handle grip, a bamboo scraper and a nylon bristle wand scrubber. I've built up a cast iron collection of multiple sized pans and pots, but this one gets the most use.

I got the 12" lodge from Amazon for $18, I love it!

vote-for-2vote-against

@gthing: Can you post the link to the Woot!-exclusive cast iron skillet on Amazon?

vote-for3vote-against

Not a great price unless you are very brand conscious or feel compelled to only own things that have logos.

vote-for2vote-against

@njkatz: Not only that - Lodge pans aren't the same as they were back when they would machine the inside smooth - today none of the cast iron pan makers can be bothered to put the correct finish on the inside of the pan. And, BTW, MY Lodge pan not only carries the name, but also where it was made (Erie PA, NOT China...) I'd def pass on this even if I didn't already have one, because it's priced so outrageously high.

@ajc263: I think cast iron is great but todays "products" have sure gone downhill, compared to 50 year old ones.

vote-for2vote-against

@willnott: How so? I do have some Lodge pans without the Woot logo that are very nice and cook well and are made in the US. How are they different than old ones?

vote-for2vote-against

@njkatz: We won't really know the answer to that for another 50 years.

vote-for2vote-against

@willnott: It's still made in the USA. Woot even did a video of how they were made.

How did this get so many upvotes? Its $18.97 on Amazon:
