iGo Universal 90-Watt Slim Notebook AC Adapter for $19.99 + shipping
“That’s the last time I go on a blind date. All he could talk about was his laptop charger.”
Will this fit HP?
Yes, according to the product description, it is compatible with HP laptops... as well as Acer, Alienware, ASUS, AVERATEC, Compaq, DELL, Everex, Fujitsu, Gateway, Lenovo, LG, MSI, Panasonic, Samsung, Sony and Toshiba.
This seems to be a better deal... More Charging, Better Brand. iGo are toooo bulky. blech. Still might buy one. No, bad. Need to stop buying junk for no reason. Okay so these are pretty slim, but the tips are bulky. I'm tired screw this... I gotta get some sleep or I'll be crabby.
I would recommend staying away from the universal power adapters. I'm using one on my computer right now, and the tips are always falling off and making it a challenge to charge anything.
I'm in for one, the AC adapter on my laptop is starting to show it's age. I can pick up this one as a backup or for use at work so I don't have to carry it anymore. At $20, respiffed with a 1 year warranty? I'll bite.
Nice that it DOESN'T have the retractable cord. I have one that does and it's a pain. Easier to carry, but having a heavy thing in the middle of the cord isn't good.
not very good for laptop that requires 130w without trottling. (xps16)
@tluo: You should be able to hook it up and run the Dell laptop at reduced CPU speed, but it probably won't charge the battery. Dell (and presumably others) use a center pin to identify a power adapter's model/current, and I suspect the iGo doesn't have the center pin.

anyone know how well the provided tip fits into an Asus eeepc? cause if it is good than I def want one, this POS ac adapter is only rated like one amp higher and a similar wattage that it runs on, so if you try and run it while it is plugged in the ac adapter overheats =( ...I would lover a solution that didn't involve a red hot exacto knife, some aluminum fins and a fan!
I am confused. When picking out a power supply I always try to match the volts and use equal or higher amps then the device. How does this work without a voltage step switch?
@wiley2484: seems that you already were crabby
I had to buy one of these at an airport after I forgot to bring my regular brick with me. I paid $80 instead of $20, but it was new in the box.
Overall, I'd say this is well worth the price here. The plug has a right angle connector (unlike my stock one), which is nice, and the tip fits nice and snug on the end of the wire coming out of the brick.
It's nice and thin, comes with Velcro-style wraps to keep the wires managed, and it supplies more watts than the one that came with my Dell.
Buy this and keep it in your travel bag! You won't regret it. It's compatible with a wide variety of laptops too.
I'm in for one... actually Calling SWMBO to see if it's going to be 2.
I've had an iGo travel power adapter for a couple of years, and I would agree with thermo, except that iGo went and changed the tip connectors on me. What's the point of a universal adapter if they are going to change the standard? If you just want this for one laptop, I'd say go for it. At full price the allure is that you can use it to charge other accessories, and keep the adapter when you change phones or whatever. That turned out to be a lie.
This is a MUST for any computer shop! Nothing like trying to work on a laptop and the customer doesn't leave the ac adapter. I'm in for 3!!
iGO stands behind their products. I purchased a different iGo laptop charger from woot a year ago, and when the cable started to have problems, I wrote iGo, and they replaced it free, not even a shipping charge!
in for 1. we were packing things to move and my wife accidentally put her laptop charger in the box of stuff we were donating. i laughed and laughed. then she smacked me upside the head. so, here i am. buying this charger.
I bought this same type of iGo adapter (also refurb) from another retailer for ~2 times the price. It replaced my Gateway's OEM adapter. This is a GREAT adapter, especially for this price. The connectors are tight-fitting, the unit stays very cool (unlike my OEM adapter), and it's lightweight. Also, the USB port is convenient for charging my cell phone without having to take up another electrical outlet. I HIGHLY recommend this adapter.
EDIT: I just realized this model doesn't have a USB port. I really like that feature in mine; but I would still recommend this adapter, even without the USB port.
I have one of these; I ended up leaving town without my power adapter and managed to grab one at Walmart. The cost at retail was something like $80ish. This is a great deal.
Mine works great. My only complaint is a light ticking sound out of the transformer, but you only hear it if the room is quiet. I think I'll pick up another one or two of them for future use.
Does anyone have a Dell laptop and been able to use the 702 tip to charge it? I have had problems with my Dell not recognizing chargers and then refusing to charge it (also runs slower), although it does keep the power from draining away.
Thanks!
Poking on the iGo website it does not look like this model will work with my Asus 1000he.
If your asking will it work with my X... if you head over to the iGo website and look in the outlet tab you can find this unit and then you can type in your specific model and it will tell you yes or no.
I fought with IGO for over a month for a replacement cord. I had purchased one of those $50 kits with the home and car adapters that shared a retractable cord. After they refused to replace it 4 weeks after i bought it and had receipt, i argued with them through email for a month. I was then forced to go to radio shack and purchase a new kit and return it with the old cable.
If the warranty on this refurb is helping your decision, I would have to say not to count on it happening.
But if it lasts for a year, then It was worth the money spent. I am going to purchase this and hope for the best because noname chargers go for this price on ebay.
I cannot speak for the quality of this specific product, but my replacement charges from bestbuy are the same thing with different adapters. I can say that having those different adapters is really useful. When my girlfriend comes over she doesn't need to remember her charger cause I have an adapter for her laptop. Plus I have found other times where having the multiple adapters fit other devices that I had lost the charger for years ago. Could come in handy and has a lot of utility.
Does this come with the cord that plugs into the wall as well? I need a replacement brick but my current one uses 3 plastic prongs on the cord from the wall, instead of the 2 shown here.
these retail for 100 bucks.
this is a steal.
@dalekempress: it shows the power cord to the wall in the package contents photo.
Having many iGO adapters and tips.....I have been wanting these for awhile as I have 4 different laptops.
Used to have a TARGUS Universal adapter but its tips weren't compatible with iGO stuff....
Yay!!!
My daughter has killed her second Dell power adapter. I'm going to get this, then smack her with it.
Bring this back, I need it!
I bought 3, they all die or short out eventually but I've had this brand survive the longest for me and $20 is much better than $80+ at a box store. I don't care how good the service is at a "brick-n-mortar" and even then good service is rare these days.

Mine actually got here about an hour and a half ago. Plugged it in for testing immediately and it has been running very cool. The brick in the middle is wider than I thought it would be but still fits in my laptop bag so I'm not too concerned about that. Love it so far.
I just received mine today. The correct tip for my laptop, an Asus UL80Vt, was not included, but iGo offers one free tip if the needed tip isn't included with the charger.
I've completed the online request form at iGo's website, and will hoepfully receive the tip in a week.
FWIW, the charger is very, very similar to my other charger, a Cooler Master model SNA95. I wonder if they are identical under the covers.
I just got mine today. It worked for about 2 minutes. Now off to figuring out the return.
Verify your device has a tip compatible with this charger. Mine doesn't.
I received mine yesterday, and QC must not be their strength, as I did not get one of hte tips that is listed as included for the Sony (709) but have two 706's, as well as received one tip that is not even compatible with the charger they sent me... Now I have to figure out how to get the right tip, and hope this thing works!
Doesn't work at all with my Dell Inspiron 8600. The iGo box lights up until I plug it into the laptop, then it goes out. Nothing ever lights up on the laptop and it supplies 0 power at all.
Just got mine today. Using it on my HP 8440p. It works as a power cord but does not charge the battery (maintains charge). Not ideal but I can live with it I guess.
I just got the pair I ordered. One had the 704 tip I need for my thinkpad, the other did not. Off to see if they'll send it to me...
@vortec42 (yes, I'm talking to myself): I want to amend my comment from before, after using it for a week. It does charge the battery. It doesn't function identically to the OEM charger, but seems to do a pretty good job. The laptop is noticeably cooler after leaving it on (purposely to waste power) overnight. I haven't checked the charge rate between the two but that might be an interesting experiment.
Features I like are having two velcro straps, one for each the cables on either side of the brick (my OEM one only has one). The brick is noticeably thinner, which will make it pack easier in my laptop bag. And finally, the laptop connection tip is angled which I think reduces the stress on the cable (which is usually bent on the way out from the laptop) as well as on the connection on the laptop board (which has become unsoldered on previous laptops of mine, due to this stress).
@sfeitler: My new 704 tip showed up in the mail. I'm a happy camper now.
Anyone know how to get warranty service on this? Mine just stopped working. :(
