The original Japanese version is definately worth seeing -- it's a lot darker than the US version with Orson Welles cut in.

@miken927: Indeed, the Japanese original is superior in many ways. Gojira was intended as an allegory for the atomic bombs dropped at the end of WWII and to allow the Japanese people a way to have a kind of catharsis through entertainment. Because this aspect of the film would have had no meaning to U.S. audiences the film was heavily edited both to suite American tastes and to include Raymond Burr (not Orson Welles) so U.S. audiences would have an actor/character they could identify with and utilize as an entry point to the film.
