Overall the price of this item seems like it would be really good compared to their other offerings however I can't find anything for this price on their site.

vote-for-1vote-against

I just emailed them they should fix ASAP.

Thanks for the heads up and patience.

Luke

No thanks... Bought their last "deal" and ripped my face up real good.
Simply not worth it. You'll use it once and wonder what the hell... It's not supposed to hurt like that.
This really is an instance of you get what you pay for.
If you like to bleed... Go for it.

@griz13: It is expected that your first few or so shaves will be less than ideal. There is a learning curve AND your face has to get used to it,

@sinbot: Correct you are. Thanks for the honest input. I have a hard time for the first few passes just switching blade sizes.

Have a good night.

@buddhaj: We are not stating that the GB Blades are the same quality as a German Made DOVO however they are 1/10th the cost. The point of these promotions is to give people the opportunity to try wet shaving with a new nice, shave ready quality blade.

We have many very happy customers that continue to patronize the GB blades and the DOVO. If money is no option I would say always get the DOVO or better yet they could go for one of the vintage blades we restore (Our restoration shop is now in full production finishing many vintage blades each week).

The goal with these specials is to give the average guy who would never buy a straight razor an introduction to a new way (an awesome way) to shave.

Luke

@griz13: Yeah, sounds like this is more of an instance of you not really practicing proper technique, not really the vendor or the blade's fault.

Whoever's downvoting straightrazor's comments is a tool. All the dude's doing is giving honest straight forward advice. If that's not commendable in your book then you need to throw your book out and get a new one.

@jersully: Ohh you mean offer an amazing deal like this one: http://deals.woot.com/deals/details/14f97d73-0b85-4997-bbba-da023e5b2e22/50-off-wet-shaving-set-with-german-made-dovo-solingen-straight-razor#40

currently about a 75 vote swing on votes in the favor of the inexpensive non German razor.

People want to start out with an economy model before purchasing the best blade money can buy. That is the nature of reality and the haters can hate me for offering both but I listen to the people not my competitors.

@straightrazor: Still using the Chefs Choice Commercial Straight Blade Sharpener and Chefs Choice strop http://i.imgur.com/w3sw3.png http://i.imgur.com/xe5gr.png still haven't seen a video to the contrary. Same deal 1080p no cuts no edits and the blade never leaves the view. And if you downvote this one as well it's proof that you don't stand behind your product.

@psywiped: My razor restorations are some of the finest out there...

You guys can believe what you want to believe I am not looking for winning over the razor snobs in the forums.

This is the kind of work we do and our sales, service and product speak for themselves. I still think its funny you guys got clowned by sarcasim and still don't get it. But yes I still use the chefs choice and I also used a Ryobi 8v drill on these restorations:

Buyers Beware. I've bought from these guys before via deals.woot and will not be doing so again. The product that they sent me was very different from what was advertised. I returned the item and asked for one that more closely resembled that which was advertised. The service was descent, but it's taken over a month for them to get me a new one.

vote-for-12vote-against

@gomerjimbo: As I explained in our emails (and as stated on the site) buffalo horn scales vary in color drastically. I hope these pictures here help:

http://www.vintagestraightrazor.com/product/DOVO-985850/DOVO-58-BUFFALO-HORN-HANDLE-STRAIGHT-RAZOR.html?fl=pop_prod_images&wrapper=plain

No two scales are the same. We were happy to get you one in the mail that is the color tone of the one advertised. However we did have to wait for the return. Thanks for the purchase and not sure why "Buyers Beware" is appropriate.

I used to go to a REAL barber shop that still used straight razors. In my state a Barbers License means you can use the straight blade, and a stylist cannot. Man, that was a close shave. I don't know if I could do nearly as well myself, but it was clear to me, someone skilled with a straight razor can do just as well, if not better, than some fancy multi-blade razor.

vote-for17vote-against

Seriously, just skip this. If this guy's comments and professionalism doesn't turn you off, then the sub-par products will. I don't know why Woot! lets this guy put his products on here anymore. Not only does it reflect badly upon Woot!, it also reflects badly upon the entire classic shaving community.

vote-for18vote-against

not shave ready.... over a month to deliver... not as advertised. the blade i got from these people did not hold an edge for more than half a shave even after i re-honed this supposedly "shave ready" razor. when the blade did not arrive in the promised two days "Luke" appologised over and over, and when i told him the blade was not satisfactory he appologised again and offered a discount on future purchases. Fat chance. I am never buying from these people again and i recomend you do not either. I should have known the price was too good to believe.

vote-for-6vote-against

holy cow people.. so somebody bought me one of these blades a few weeks ago as gift (not as a set, just razor) and i don't understand what everyone's issue is. Mine was sharp enough to shave with. It's a $30 razor set people.. I'm still kinda new at this, but i ended up getting a dovo bizmark from them, and i'm happy with it. I think it's fine for a beginner's blade set.

vote-for5vote-against

@brandonjamesj I ordered the dovo set too but you'll notice that the blade in question is not a dovo. If you got the same set I ordered it was 105 after shipping. Haven't been home to open the box yet but the package did only take about a week to arrive and that was during the mess that is holiday shipping.

vote-for8vote-against

@straightrazor: Easy way to prove otherwise--

With the razor never leaving the shot:
A) Show us your methodology for sharpening the razor
B) Follow with the chef's choice sharpener and strop as you've previously stated.
C) Lather up and show us a proper wtg, xtg (with optional atg) straightrazor shave.

If your product is as good as you claim this is a trivial thing to do, if it's as bad as some of the people are claiming you'll end up butchered.

vote-for-8vote-against

@shadus: =D it was sarcasm. I put that joke out there and more for the benefit of the forum people.

Here is reality. GB Buckingham & Sons is fastly becoming the nations #1 selling straight razor. We moved over 15k units last month! This is why you see the hate comments from the competitors. They cannot compete with our prices, service and quality.

Since they cannot compete they come here and place liable & slanderous comments about the company. We take great care of our customers even dealing with a ton of transactions only have a small percentage that need customer support followup and when that is needed we take great care of them.

Reality is the high end items don't sell the volume as our high quality affordable GB Buckingham Line. The DOVO WOOT for $99 was a tough sale. We continue to have repeat customers for our GB line and the response is always great. You get a high quality razor for a low price with lifetime warranty and sharpening.

Thanks for the orders
Luke

@shadus: Additionally thank you for all the attention and backlinks from the forums they really do increase sales and curiosity for our product.

Lets face it all these comments drive traffic and the backlinks to my site just help the PageRank and google search.

Our sales keep growing exponentially and the attention is great.

I don't get Wooters' beef with the company. They're a great company and have incredible customer service.

Just because you bought an inexpensive blade and had problems with it isn't the fault of the company necessarily. It more the fault of expecting to pay $30 and get a $100 blade. Last I checked, life didn't work that way.

vote-for10vote-against

This is the largest problem I have. The blades come "shave ready" and more often than not they don't. Their customer service policy is to make the customer take advantage of their lifetime sharpening policy. I paid money for a product that wasn't delivered as described. Their customer service policy is absolute crap because I don't want to send it in and get a worse blade back.

vote-for2vote-against

@tahd: You really could have chosen your words more carefully. Comparing the guy to a rapist and pedophile, are you serious?

vote-for8vote-against

@straightrazor: Prove that people saying your product is not usable are lying, 1080p video no cuts no edits no leaving the field of view with the razor and enough stubble that we can see that it really shaves. I put that challenge at you over 2 months ago and you still haven't done it. That's proof that even you can't shave with the pocket knifes your selling. And care to explain how I'm a competitor of your's? I've been driving a truck for the last 5 years. If you had a product that shaved I would have bought a 7 day set in a heartbeat. But alas it was just a razor shaped pocket knife like all the other cheap blades. Keep up the slander luke really classy.

Kyle

@buddhaj: More often than not? We sell thousands of these every week and get back a few that we gladly take care of... your point is unfounded since we correct issues when they arise. This is an arbitrary thing to say. Walmart gets returns, Macy's gets returns it happens even more so when your doing high volume. What matters is how you handle your customers. We work hard to take care of our customers.

Luke.

vote-for8vote-against

@straightrazor: I doubt you sell thousands a week hundreds is more likely. Your in a niche market where your clientele are very particular about their product and quality. If you actually are making thousands of sells in a week it is more likely to be soaps and strops.

vote-for10vote-against

I wonder why the owner (webmaster) of such a company would resort to the equivalent of an internet pissing contest if he really believed in his product? The fact that an entrepreneur would have to go to online battle with "competitors" (a reference I may have missed since none of the commentators thus far have provided a link for their online services) speaks volumes about his character and professionalism. Also, here is what SRP has said about the razor in question, originally posted on October 27th, 2011: http://straightrazorplace.com/razors/76033-so-i-tried-gb-buckingham-sons-razor.html

The Dovos, Dubl Ducks and Wade and Butchers are all fantastic razors, I would imagine that the time spent arguing with faceless internet entities could be better spent providing more high-quality products that I've mentioned above. I have no doubt that this gentleman runs a quality business with great products at a reasonable price, but so far in his sophomoric banter, I have little to believe.

vote-for11vote-against

Just so you know, I already had a straight razor set before I bought from these guys. No problem shaving with that set, so no... It is not my technique... The razor did not come properly honed.

Another forums group and another negative review on said website's blades.

http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php/251571-Is-the-Jury-still-out-on-Vintagestraightrazor-com

I also did some searching on the names listed on their testimonials about their product. One of which showed up as a user who posts comments on threads but never posted for any of their products. The other two woot users did not show up as making comments in any searches. Went to their facebook to see the comment left by the facebook user and nothing was showing up on their wall. I figure if any of the people who posted the positive testimonials would be here in a heart beat. So far its not showing up.

Wanting to get into using a straight razor, I purchased a past deal. In talking with my father, he told me that he had my great grandfathers razor and bowl. I informed VSR of this, and they said to return it with a copy of the email for a refund. I thought they were very understanding at first, and intended in buying shave soap, strop, etc from them... A month later, after contacting them multiple times, I am yet to see a refund. I can't suggest anyone to do business with a company that won't honor their word. Feel free to contact me of you want to see the email correspondence.

@straightrazor: i've been shaving with a straight razor for quite awhile... My technique is just fine thank you very much. I learned from my grandpa... And i'm using his blade... I'm just fine with that.
