it's fun to play with for a while, make sure you buy an extra string and bolts though. One of the plastic clips that the string sits on broke off after about 100 shots making the bow useless.

If so, extras come with the replacement string, so the crossbow isn't permanently useless.

Sooooo, guns and ammo = too scary for deals.woot.

Crossbow = same thing = perfectly acceptable.

I love the saddening reality that is deals.woot. Hypocrisy in the name of correctness. This is why it's confusing for me on here. Why are guns scary and evil and crossbows (completely silent tools for killing things) perfectly acceptable? Is it the noise? Cuz if so I can find a link to some silencers and flash hiders for each of the guns posted...

Obviously rhetorical but just saying.

It might be the legality of where Woot's actual headquarters are located. Quite a few states have prohibitions on selling firearms and ammunition online.

You have a good point, but let me tell you: I have one of these, and it would be far easier to hurt someone by hitting them with the actual crossbow than by trying to shoot them with it. It's low powered and has rather blunt bolts. It'd sting and maybe make you bleed, but THIS crossbow at least is not anywhere near the category of firearms haha. You get what you pay for and it's a lot of fun, but you'd have to be really skilled or really unlucky to kill someone with it.

I bought a couple a while ago for the same price. Opened one mess around with it. To me it feels like it could put a nice hole in a person, maybe not kill them quickly. I sold the other one on craig's list for $15.

As far as guns and ammoo being too scary for woot... I think that was just woot appeasing a few squeaky wheels (none of whom were forced to click on any deals they found objectionable).

@qpalmer: I assumed as such but was commenting on the larger policy issue. Here in Connecticut we aren't allowed to have a crossbow unless we are deemed worthy by a special committee and then we are bestowed the honor of exorbitant taxes on said item. I kind of spit up a little when I read the part about hitting someone with it (I was mid swallow on some grape soda)...thanks for that. And I'm sure you caught the meaning of my original message but I love to hear myself talk...

@errantvandal: it's more likely that woot didn't make money from these deals and they caused issues so they cut the gun deals out. I was one that posted gun deals, so I miss being able to share those deals with the woot community.
