If these work like the usual 12V trickle chargers, they can easily take half an hour to charge your battery to where it has enough starting power. They're fine if the other car doesn't need to go anywhere. If the other person can only spare a few minutes, however, you're better off investing in good jumper cables.

@eidelbus: You're probably right. I haven't tried this particular product. However, I HAVE nearly blown up a car or two by putting the jumper cables on incorrectly, and for some reason I seem to deal with cars which have batteries in odd or inconvenient places. Personally, I'm including a set of these in my auto safety kit as a backup in case I just can't get the jumper cables to work. (My last car had a trick hood that even the garage couldn't open without a crowbar!)
