This is a great deal on a great set of movies, but reading the reviews on Amazon has me wondering if it's worth it. The general consensus seems to be that the first 2 movies look awful - almost sounds like Fox transferred from a DVD rather than giving us the HD on a BRD. (holy acronyms, batman!) We own all 4 of the movies on DVD already...is it really worth the money for crappy copies of some of the movies?

For what it's worth, apparently the 3rd one looks pretty good and the 4th looks outstanding (aside from some folks' opinions about it sucking as a movie, but I was entertained as long as I turned my brain off :)

Also wondering if it's worth holding out for a box set once the 5th movie has come out. Anyone have any opinions that might sway a possible purchaser one way or the other?

Honestly, I wouldnt buy it because they will probably remaster the origionals for a good box set after the new one comes out. These movies are forever in my hall of fame and never to be subject to the ridicule of labels like "top 5", or "all time favorites", and still I wouldnt buy this set knowing I might experience DVD format on Blu-Ray again, (which I would describe to someone who hasn't experienced this as washing my eyes out with amonia...).

Anyway, my advice, wait for the good set with the new movie, the only reason this is cheap is because its cheap...

Had this in my cart on amazon, and after reading both of the above comments, I totally agree with the notion of holding out. Community feedback FTW.

What's a Die Hard movie with the famous line of series censored? They haven't released the unrated Blu Ray version without his famous line not censored -

Also the new film is still in theaters - so why buy a box set missing a movie?

You know you're getting old when Die Hard is celebrating 25yrs. Seems like I just saw the first one at the movies.

I am not that anal that the fifth movie has to be INSIDE the same cardboard box to make me happy. It can sit next to it on the shelf just fine. At $6 a blu-ray and a $10 voucher to see the new movie, this is a no brainer deal! Done, just purchased!

Look people, movies from the 1980's are never going to look as nice on blu-ray as today's releases, look at all the people complaining about "The Godfather" collection on blu-ray. Ignore those people!!

And yes his famous line IS in the movie, despite what a previous poster said.

My only counterpoint would be that if you're going to see the new movie in theaters with a friend, you've probably already spent close to $25. Might as well get more out of it as well.

Regardless, I think I'm going to pass. I have the 5-star collection DVDs of the first three and they look great. My local movie theater has $5 movies M-Th and before noon on Sunday.

Just to add to general consensus.
Word of advice, before buying ANY Blu, I strongly recommend checking out blu-ray.com's review of the movie first. It has saved me from a few movies that suffer from "Gangs of New York and 5th Element sydrome."

Great deal. Ordered mine as well. Was in stock when I placed my order just a few minutes ago.

@sysmatrix: thanks I tried again after seeing your comment and got mine!!

Disregard Rotten Tomatoes, the new Die Hard movie was great. That's the second time it's been wrong about a film that I've seen recently. The critics are paid off, I swear.

just a heads up>>>this set is only $18.99 at costco!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@fat50strat: What's wrong with the Fifth Element on Blu Ray? It got good reviews on the site you linked. The only thing they mentioned was that it included very few extras.

@strider300: The 5th Element is fine, now. However the INITIAL release of it is widely regarded as, I won't say the worst, but one of the worst Blu Rays ever to exist. So bad in fact that the movie studio issued refunds in the form of an exchange program to the poor bastards who bought it.

@jwright9199: Unfortunately my Costco didn't have this. BTW, the Amazon deal is dead as of today, 2.15.13. Price is now $29.99 :(
