Coolest toy ever.

Finally it looks like something worth staying up for.

vote-for5vote-against

Skitterbot looks like it will kick the crap out of Trekbot. Time to buy both and todays Woot item to make a video of it officially happening. It will be my own low rent version of Battlebots.

vote-for3vote-against

which part is rechargeable and which is not? says 'AG13 Button Cell Batteries' included, are those rechargeable button cells?

vote-for6vote-against

These are too cool to pass up.... in for 3

vote-for8vote-against

In for three. My office will be awesome.

vote-for8vote-against

based on amazon skitter is better and tougher, in for 2, may the best one win or just scare my cat

vote-for20vote-against

I went to youtube and hope these help if you are hesitant about this one.

Video of the Skitter Bot: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kTey3aBp57c

Video of the Trekbot: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yzrr8G_Z55c&feature=relmfu

Both look pretty darned cool if you ask me. I have to wait for my paycheck tomorrow, but I'll be snagging at least one.

vote-for7vote-against

I got a skitterbot- I figure my cat will love it

vote-for3vote-against

Skitterbots + my GoPros = Viral. Time to make my colleagues famous!

vote-for7vote-against

My nephew (in his mid- twenties) has a place on his desk at work where he keeps & plays with all the things I get him from Woot: screaming flying monkeys, Bucky balls, etc. These will be the latest addition.

vote-for2vote-against

Would have got 1 of each had I not seen the vid and how loud they are :(

Cant pull that off in my office.

May still get skitterbot...

vote-for2vote-against

@daveinsocal: How did you get two? I want a second one but it wont let me buy it... :(

vote-for2vote-against

Darn, I wish that controller were rechargeable too. I hate buying batteries.

vote-for3vote-against

Don't anyone let one of these crawl out of your cellar. It might hurt your Mom.

vote-for7vote-against

For those worried about the button cell batteries for the controller, here are a couple cheap places to get batteries. One is Meritline and the other is an eBay seller located in the U.S. I've never bought from them, but the feedback ratings are good. I haven't had problems with button cell batteries purchased through other sellers on eBay in the past. The probably won't last as long as the Energizers you pay $4 at the store, but you can't beat the price.

Meritline - 10 AG13 for $2.99 with free shipping:

Battmanaz on eBay - 5 AG13 for $1.09, 10 for $1.35, 20 for $2.09, 30 for $2.79, 50 for $3.09, 40 for $3.99, 50 for $4.49, 100 for $4.99. They also have 50 for $3.09 in bulk packaging.

Being titled robotic I expected these to have an autonomous mode, but it appears they do not.
Rather, they are 'remote control' really cool bug like toys, ie: still very cool, but controlled via remote. Still in for three.

vote-for9vote-against

@danbooke2001: "Is everyone serious?"
It's a toy and you ask if people are serious ? Do the words "toy" and "serious" even go together?

vote-for2vote-against

I just bought three.... now I need to find a good priced USB hub. I have too many devices at my desk...

vote-for5vote-against

This just in from our battlefield reporter. Go ahead jane, you are live in five, four three two one go. Thanks Jim. I'm Jane Insane reporting live from the battling robot war front. The skittlers and tekkies signed a truce last night and formed a new integrated army. The reason for this astounding development?? Highly reliable anonymous sources tell us that both armies received credible intelligence that the BORG are on the way. ETA 2 days till they arrive on planet desktop. Stay tuned for further developments..... or you will be assimilated!!!!

vote-for5vote-against

@dinaayoub: When you do your initial order, you'll see "I want 2" and "I want 3" on the order page. However, we only allow one order per day so if you've already ordered, it won't let you order again.

If you want to add more to your order (up to 3), just email service@woot.com and they'll be glad to assist as long as the product hasn't sold out.

vote-for5vote-against

Jeez - Thunderthighs you are everywhere, in every forum, saving us from our failings. You must have the patience of a saint - or get a really nice paycheck!

vote-for2vote-against

My boss sent me the link for this today. I blame him now for any lack of productivity. I went for 2 skitterbots. The battle will be on.

vote-for1vote-against

Anyone know if these can be USB controlled or if the USB port is just for charging? If USB controlled, I'll be in.

vote-for1vote-against

I got on woot today looking for a micro SD card, but instead bought one of these....not to disappointed though :)

vote-for6vote-against

Can someone explain to me, how do you get:
1 rechargeable battery
1 non-rechargable battery
2 COMPLEX assembled plastic housings
IR transmitter AND LEDs
IR receiver module (I'm assuming with some micro controller functionality!)
2 motors
2 colored LEDs
2 PCBs
USB charging circuitry
Wires, solder, electronic assembly
2 connectors
2 rubber o-rings (in the case of the trekbot)
screws
resistors
capacitors

For 9.99 AND anyone makes anything...?

vote-for3vote-against

Awesome price for these awesome cat toys! :)

vote-for7vote-against

Unrelated to this specific woot, but just wanted to send a shout out to sellout.woot for shipping my last order via USPS (I think Priority Mail?) 'cause it got to me (at an overseas US Military APO/FPO) in 1 week!!!!! Normally, it goes by "Smart"-Post and takes 6-8 weeks... I hope the guys at woot have decided to go directly with USPS! If so, they could probably include Hawaii/Alaska, unless they are taking a slight "hit" to support the troops. [Hopefully this post doesn't alert some stuffed shirt in woot to shut this down and go back to Smart-Post.] woot! woot! woot!

vote-for1vote-against

I'm in for 3 despite some negative reviews. They seem to be noisy and cheaply made. Of course they were purchased at about $20 plus shipping on the Mother company, and I'm not expecting too much for $15 delivered.
Here's one listing's reviews:

vote-for3vote-against

Heads up if you miss this woot, radio shack has these in stock for $9.99 on sale, $12.99 regularly, no shipping.

Radio Shack needs our support to stay alive...

vote-for2vote-against

According to what i found online,,,,you can control these with your ANDROID phone. No need to use the remote!!! If true,,,,,this is a HUGE PLUS that I did not see mentioned. This is the deal-maker for me!!

vote-for3vote-against

@jayirick: They lose money on every sale but make it up on volume.

vote-for2vote-against

@gluonconcerto, there's a link for @joetechco's otherwise-implausible assertion, right on the main page at http://www.mydeskpets.com/

EDIT: This requires the "iDeskPets Universal Remote", which is NOT included with these two Desk Pets. (Only with the TankBot, although that remote apparently works with all the DeskPets.) The iDeskPets remote plugs into your Android/iOS headphone jack.

vote-for1vote-against

Any idea on the range of these toys?

vote-for1vote-against

true.....you do need an IR dongle to use an Android to control it......but that is easily under $10.......so I am pretty jazzed!!

vote-for2vote-against

In for one of each...they're for my cats to play with. Really.

vote-for1vote-against

@joetechno link us to an IR adapter under $10 and I'm sold. I can't find one, though :(

vote-for1vote-against

Got two bug bots to scare the HELL!!!!!!! out of are three cats, and see what my Doberman will do!!! he 9 months old and 87lbs,and no fat.He may just take a bite at them or run like hell!!!!This should be fun to watch.

vote-for1vote-against

@netpog's post:
Here's the link to a video of the universal remote dongle. It seems you must be able to point the dongle directly at the Bot though to control it. Just ordered my 3.

vote-for2vote-against

This product assumes I have a clean desk.

vote-for1vote-against

why wouldn't remote also have a rechargeable battery?

vote-for1vote-against

A new weapon here on the MW3 floor ;^)

vote-for0vote-against

@jordan711 for lack of a proper answer to your question, at a foot a second and 15 minutes of run time, I'm guessing 900 feet...
